“Standard” Model 3 and Y (both RWD only) released

LR RWD and LR AWD are now “Premium” trim.

Given that anyone who would buy one of these in Q4 probably got a much nicer one for $2,500 less than these with the tax credit in Q3, I predict they will flop big time in Q4. Maybe even worse than the stripped Cybertruck RWD. Tesla seems to have gone out of their way to make the Model Y Standard in particular appear cheap and undesirable. The Model 3 isn’t too bad, plus it got the turn signal stalk back and a front bumper camera. IMO and YMMV

Do we know if they’re LFP, or just really removing a module from the existing NMC pack? Can’t believe how cheaply they did this… even to the point of putting a fabric headliner under the glass roof panel. This seems like they just phoned it in… instead of making a new model they just damaged the residual value of every 3 and Y out there and produced a half-baked stripper version.

Meanwhile, outside of Tariff Disneyland… https://insideevs.com/news/774923/zeekr-001-charging-one-megawatt/

the purpose of "Standard" trim teslas is to push people to appreciate their actual standard tesla equipment.
You’ve had to buy the top trim level of competing mass market models to get the same features that came standard on a $49,000 Model Y LR AWD. For example, triple zone climate control, heated rear seats, and power folding mirrors on the $58,000 ID.4 AWD Pro S Plus. Top trims have been similarly priced from Hyundai and Ford who’ve had the most popular non-Teslas until the budget Equinox.

it made sense 5 years ago when teslas were niche and expensive, but by now, they've become the cheapest used EVs so I don't see the appeal.
When they were selling new at up to ten times the number of the competition, that put the current supply of used BEVs mostly Teslas. With increased supply comes lower prices and opportunity.

Also, Junipers are incredibly ugly. They are the worst looking tesla of all times, and again I don't know how they achieved it, because the Model 3 refresh looks really good.
I laugh when you say that, but different strokes for different folks. Juniper is still the number one selling BEV in the US and globally. It’s still number one in Norway and the Juniper refresh has passed the Volvo EX40 for number one in Sweden despite the tussle with IG Metall. So in the eye of the beholder.

From the article:

“The standard version is only 125 lbs lighter than the premium despite Tesla seemingly using the same battery pack with a few cells removed.”

Steel wheels didn’t help:

Seems the standard Model 3 is decent if they would add back AutoPilot (the exclusion of which is ridiculous).

The standard Model Y is just sad though. The price should be much lower for how much they took out. It's like when VW removed the premium audio from the plus trims and only offered $300 as compensation, except applied to like every component in the car.

Keeping the glass roof but then covering it with a headliner is just LOL.

Except perhaps for inventory, the Standard appears to be gone and the 291 mile RWD Pro now the bottom of the lineup. Its $46,520 with destination MSRP is currently (and probably permanently) offset by a $5,000 discount. The 321 mile Model Y Standard is $41,630 with destination and order fee. About the same prices. I’ll leave the details to you.
