The ID4 earns top marks almost everywhere, except Lights on Pro trim which get an Acceptable, and Vehicle to Pedestrian crash avoidance where it earns an Advanced instead of Superior.
All in all, the ID4 gets a Top Safety Pick + from IIHS.

Wish VW just use the same headlight on all the models as opposed to reflector LED on base model... That was one downside I quickly noticed when I drove at night the first time after owning the vehicle for over 2 months.

That small overlap was the most impressive I’ve ever seen… looks like the door is unaffected!

ID.4 joins a few SUVs, such as the Mach-e, which have also done exceptionally well in crash tests and have a very low chance of rollover due to low center of gravity. All ICE SUV's have a relatively much higher chance of rollover compared to dedicated EV SUVs, so no matter how well they do in IIHS crash tests they likely won't be as safe as an ID.4. The NHTSA rollover determination, which is supposed to come out this year, will likely prove that the ID.4 and Mach-e have very low chances of rollover. The Tesla Model Y AWD has a mere 7.9 % chance of rollover. Contrast that with the Honda CR-V AWD chance of rollover of 16.4 % and a VW Tiguan AWD chance of rollover of 15.6%.

I think the headlamps on the US model are an afterthought because the matrix headlamps the car was designed with are prohibited in the US.
