4G data symbol gone and so is car-net

UPDATE: Pulling fuse 19 and waiting 10 mins then putting it back seems to bring the 4G modem back online immediately. This has been the fix for the ID.3 for some time.

Sometime yesterday the 4g data symbol in my car disappeared and around that time car-net stopped working. Now when I look in settings, the car-net setting is gone. Any other owners seeing this right now?

I wonder when your free month of Wi-Fi runs out? I received notice yesterday from Verizon that mine is about to terminate. I have no intention of adding it, because I don't see value in it.

I've confirmed with VW that CarNet does not depend upon this subscription -- but every communication has been ambiguous, so I remain uncertain of what to expect.

Oh I ran out of trial data the weekend after getting the vehicle thus starting the long saga of not being able to activate the hotspot myself. Yesterday after mentioning it to a regional service rep who is handling a few other cases for me I noticed 4g was gone all together and car-net does not work at all. Car-net did work for many weeks after I hit the gig limit.
it’s bad now because without any connection I cannot get OTA, traffic update and map updates, car-net and I can’t even do something as simple as reading the legal notices on the car since they fail with no network.

I sure hope that my car is the anomaly otherwise new users are not going to have a great experience.

At this point I am contemplating pulling the Meg lead on the battery and letting the car sit for a bit to fully reset.

Really the WiFi is so people can use your car as a hotspot.

Our forum mod (@Huey52) went through something similar. Look for the thread and see if there is useful info there

There is a dedicated "Telephone" fuse, might be worth checking it or pulling it to try reseting.

Thanks for the good suggestion. Alas pulling the fuse for telephone and the 2 for infotainment caused everything to restart, however the car did not connect to data and show a 4g symbol.
Since I have been going through a tough few weeks trying to get this car connected to my VZW I am assuming at this point my IMEI is probably blacklisted and the side VW pays for is now blocked.

If I can’t get a resolution, I guess I will have to have my dash torn apart and the data module replaced.
My VZW expired after two weeks and my wife and I both coincidentally lost Android Auto around the same time, not sure exactly, but that might have been me messing with the Hot Spot settings. But as far as I know it didn't affect 4G connectivity or Car Net. To clear up the AA issue, however, after deleting the phones with no success, I performed a "factory reset" (I think that's how it's listed on the Settings menu), and that killed Car Net. Even got a "Safe Travels, Your VW Car-Net® account is closing" email! But just had to perform setup again like on day 1.

I assume if you've gotten this far you've already tried the infotainment system reset? Did pulling the fuse have the same effect as zeroing out all of your settings?

Came out to the car and 4g symbol is back. Not sure if the fuse pulling last night fixed it or what. Just happy it is working again today for my 700 mile road trip.

This past week I lost the 4g symbol and Car-Net options. I resolved this by pulling fuse 20, waiting, putting it back in and restarting the car.

Just for future reference...how long should we be "waiting" before reinstalling fuse? Thanks.

I waited about 10 mins. This may have been coincidental but the 2 times it miraculously came back I had pulled that fuse. BTW there are plastic fuse pulling tongs in the under hood fuse panel, but remember this fuse 20 is in the cabin panel to the left of the steering wheel in the US ID.4.

Don’t attempt to start the car with this or any other fuse pulled or you can get CEL’s.

@majorgearhead Ok. That's longer than I thought so thanks for the note. Sorry, but what does the acronym CEL stand for? I can't figure it out, although I assume that it means another system fault error that is hard to clear.

And as luck would have it, or maybe VW, Car-Net and VZW got sick to death of the daily calls from me I have full in-car data services working. I was able to connect to Car-Net tonight and also enable in-car WiFi connecting it to my VZW account. Lastly I was able to enable streaming radio. Everything works swimmingly now and I am actually quite a fan of the streaming radio, even though I “could” get most of this from my CarPlay connection. Just kind of nice having it integrated.

And today an around 10:30 AM the cars in-car modem went offline like the 3 other times since I have owned it. Now that I pay for data I am quite perturbed that this happens. Not sure if the whole pulling fuses actually helps but am going to try that tonight.

Sorry to hear that. Mine went offline at 4 am Thursday morning during another L2 charging session that failed. I followed your guidance and pulled & reinserted the Telephone fuse today and am hoping that will fix it. Thanks for posting the fix, and I hope that your car's cell radio also comes back online again. Definitely not a long-term solution.

Thank you. Trying something new this time. I called into CarNet and they said they had been fielding calls all day for data connections going away. They were fixing it by resetting the account on their side and having us wait 24 hours to see if it gets fixed. We shall see if this works. If not back to the fuse solution.

Interesting. I also called into Car-Net yesterday afternoon and asked for a reset before I pulled the fuse. The connection has not been reestablished yet.

The more I think about it they were blowing smoke. When these cars go offline there is no way for them to “reactivate” them because there is no active communication channel with the car. I just pulled fuses and will see if it is better tomorrow.

Customers should NOT have to do this. VW needs to stop patting themselves on the back about OTA’s and just release the bug fixes now before more customer opinion damage is done. I love the car but these problems with software bugs make it feel like an unfinished product.

Indeed - how can Car-Net support reset our cars' communications if our 4G radios are locked up and not responsive to network signals?

The car is clearly unfinished. I really hate products that have had considerable effort put into developing fancy "smart" features that are riddled with bugs - my personal philosophy is to build a solid foundation first with limited (but working) capabilities before adding features. Clearly not VW's approach?

BTW, has your car's 4G radio come back on line since you contacted Car-Net for the reset? Mine has not, nor has it come back after I pulled the Telephone fuse for ~20 minutes. Just to confirm, is it the first 10A one from the top in the second column from the left?
