After 25 days of ownership my ID4 spent 3 days at the shop getting a coolant pump replaced. Upon getting the car back, the next morning I got the same message. So I ignored it, and it went away <scratches head>, I'll attribute it to a software bug. Just as I start getting my confidence in the vehicle back, today the audio stopped working. no volume, no alerts, no tones, carplay keeps failing when I try to play some media, etc. When I arrive home after a 30 minute drive with no radio, I try powering the head unit off, getting out of the car, but nothing chages. Screw it, I say, let me revert to factory settings. I run through the menu, and I cant revert back to factory defaults. Anyone else experience this?

Try rebooting the infotainment system. Hold the infotainment power button down (about 20 seconds) until the screen goes blank and reboots with VW logo.

That worked, thanks. Now the question is why?

Its a computer. And a computer with an early version of software. And who knows what was stuck in its memory after your last service. Think of all the times you've had to reboot a desktop or laptop for whatever reason. However, I do anticipate things will get better as they do updates.

Also bear in mind that the powertrain control system is not being run by the infotainment system - if you need to reboot the infotainment system for any reason (or it fails for any reason) you'll still be able to drive the car.

Correct. I rebooted the infotainment system one time while driving with zero effect on the car's drivability.

I had to do the restore factory settings at least five times before it would do it without the error. Ever since I did this now the massager in the drivers side seat randomly comes on when opening the door after the vehicle has been sitting for a while.
