Agree. The rear drum was a wise choice by the VAG designers and engineers, as the drum protects all the moving parts inside from any weather elements. As long as the parking brake is applied when the vehicle is parked, then, in theory, it should be trouble-free.

Tesla OE brakes are designed and manufactured by the OEM Brembo. Yes, they're expensive to replace because Brembo brakes are fixed callipers, not floating.
Apply the brakes regularly, and maintaining them will avoid any unexpected high repair bills.
Am still wondering if it couldn't be done for a fraction of the price by a revision of the seals and just polishing the pistons a bit.
it's something i've done often with my motor bikes, and if you work carefully and cleanly, it's a perfectly safe action to do.

Except in the US ofcourse, where no-one wants to be held liable, so they probably don't even want to look at that option?

I believe in our design and engineering skills that method should work nicely.

When I help my neighbour with his car brakes, I have him sign an agreement that he won't sue me.
That, I'll only use OE or OEM and no Aftermarket junk parts. It works well for both parties.

Tesla sells some incredibly powerful cars, some of which have set lap records at the Nurburgring and it just makes good sense that they also come with great stopping power . . . . and it's even more impressive to learn that Elon trusted this to Brembo rather than trying to invent something cheaper in-house - Teslas are expensive for many reasons and this is one of them

When you buy a car with incredible zero to sixty times, it's great to know that it also comes with incredible stopping power, price be damned. If I owned a $100K super high performance machine, I wouldn't be complaining about the price of brake parts . . . . and evidently Tesla provided the labor for free - I wouldn't be driving that car on salted winter roads either. If I can afford to drive such a car, I can also easily afford a winter beater to drive on salted roads

I think this info is more a useful reminder for those thinking about picking up a used tesla model S for more palatable price.... Don't forget the parts and labor are still priced like an luxury car
