I just called my dealership after receiving the letter for 919A and they’re not ready for this. “We tried it on a couple of our internal cars and it didn’t go well. After three hours it had downloaded about 3%.” 🙄

When it happened to me, I had to call VW Customer Care so they could re-associate the car with my account.

That's definitely how it's done. (And people have reported varying sensitivity, susceptibility to gloves/wheel covers, etc.)

And, IMO, it’s preferable to the two main alternatives, positive torque (jiggling the wheel) and a driver-focused camera (creepy), though we can argue whether any of them can guarantee the driver is paying attention.
