There are two small slots at the top of the main cup holder where you can store charge cards. I have had an EVgo card that is the normal size of a credit card, and a ChargePoint card sitting in the slots for some time now. The ChargePoint card is about half the size or less of a normal credit card. Today I used it to charge, and when I put it back in the slot, it actually fell through with a clunk.

The area underneath the slots is fully enclosed, and so i cannot access the missing card. Does anyone have any non-destructive suggestions on how to open it up to get the card. Of course worse case, I just order another card and pay the dollar penalty.

I meant to mention that the card disappeared in my ID.4 Pro S, which have had since late April.

have a look here, for some hints how the console is mounted: What mods have you done to your ID.4 this week?
With some patience you can wriggle it out and get your card back. maybe properly close off the bottom of the card holder as well.

on the other side: Volkswagen shouldn't have left these slots open on the bottom imho, as another forum member lost his key in there already as well.
so maybe the dealer is willing to do this for you under "warrenty" ?

Thank you for the suggestions. I will see what I can figure out.

It seems the car wants an offering. Perhaps VW was trying to tell us something?

It's not going to help with retrieving the lost items now, but this might make the area on the top more usable.

This is a 3D printable tray (not my design), but I have some inspiration to use the slots in the car as a mount point by putting tabs on the bottom of the tray. Perhaps even add a few usable card slots in the tray that won't eat the cards presented. I'll post an update after I've printed a prototype.

had the same thing happen day one! Didn't want to start prying on trim the first day I had the car so just left it and I use the phone at Chargepoint stations now. It makes no sound and I never miss it.....it was a sacrifice to the ghost of Dr. Piech. So far has brought me good luck and I am not going to tempt fate!

I almost had this happen as well, but was still holding onto it so it didn't slip all the way through. The slot closest to the dash seems to have better support underneath for the smaller card, so now I always keep the Chargepoint card in that one and haven't had any recent problems. I'm also storing it horizontally and not vertically to keep it from going between the supports.

I checked out the card holders the first day I had the vehicle. But indeed I stood the cards UP not on their side. It had no issues staying put. Didn't fall over or pop out. There isn't any hole below the card space so no idea how yours could disappear.

I have charging cards (not sure they’re needed these days with phone contact/starting) in both of my ID4 (FE and Pro/S) card holders and have had no issues. When I read earlier on that someone supposedly lost a card in there, I checked….moved the card around, tried to get it to go in/get lost all to no avail….seems solid on mine.

That all snaps apart. My dealer showed me how you can pull apart the front cup holders and make it a shelf or make the center console into a cup holder instead by using parts from front. Maybe I'm not sure where you lost card but if In
console it comes apart with your hands.

Hello and thank you for the input. I actually lost the card at the very top of the console towards the front of the car. There are two small slits where you can store EV charging cards. I had placed the small Chargepoint card in one of the slits and since it was slightly open on the bottom (I was not aware of that at the time), it slipped through and was lost. There were two solutions to the issue --- take apart the entire console and get the card out, or simply replace the card. I chose the latter. Someone else with a greater ability to fix things might have decided to take the whole thing apart and put it back together. But I know my limitations. I now have a new card and I attached a round metal circle to the top of the card (the card has a small hole in it at the corner) so that if it slips in again it will not be able to fall through. A larger regular size charge card like the one EVgo provides (the size of a credit card) is large enough so that it will not fall through the slit.

Surely those 2 slots are just for ventilation for the wireless charging electronics below, which would explain why they are open at the bottom. Does VW really claim those slots are for holding cards or anything else?

Surely you've read the Owners Manual, where in fig 7 those slots are labelled "Card Holder"

You know the consoles mid section are removable just by pulling up from inside. My salesman did it to show that you can move cup holders to the center console. I'll have to see if that gives access to get inside that slot.

I had read About this problem early in the game so I put my cards in using the height of the card having up in the air so that it can't drop in. I think making any type of card visible to crooks is a really bad idea anyhow. I also don't like that the center console sliding cover just opens from vibration. I have a small dog that could break it's leg stepping into that. Needs a way to keep securely shut. Designers need to take public comment before making final decisions on interiors of cars.
