I will preface this by saying that I enjoy driving this car. It's smooth, it's quiet, and I like how high it sits.

I'm doing a 2 year lease and I actually picked up my FE with 1200mi already on it (it was being used as the dealer's demo car). I knew the software was an issue from the test drive that I had done on a Pro, and I won't go into all the various issues with that since they can be easily resolved with a software update. Also, coming from a Tesla Model 3, my standards are probably too high for software, especially the phone app.

The first problem I had was during my first "long" drive (over 60mi / 96km), when the side assist threw an error and stopped working. It reset itself later after I left the car parked for a bit. I found this error to show up consistently on longer drives, each time resetting itself after parking for a few hours. Dealer replaced the sensor module. Now my driver's side blind-spot warning light basically stays on even without any vehicles nearby. Dealer doesn't know what to do about that.

The next issue was a non-functioning horn. I didn't realize it wasn't functioning until I actually needed to use it. A non-functioning horn makes a car not road-worthy in most US states. Dealer replaced the horn. It works now.

My taillight bar was popping out, like others have seen. Dealer replaced it. It still pops out.

My 3rd brake light trim had huge gaps. Dealer replaced the trim. It looks even worse now.

Occasionally, when I'm at a red light and I let off the brake, the car starts rolling backwards to the point where the car beeps as if I put it in reverse and rearview camera actually turns on. The gear remains in drive during this and hitting the accelerator does send the car forward.

With the experience that I've had with this car, I would not recommend for anyone to purchase one of these at this time. VW seems to be going for quantity over quality; which kind of fits into their plan of turning software into a cash cow.

On a side note: VW Car Net's own materials state that scheduled charging is supposed to be in the app by mid-2021... they're a bit late and completely silent.

This has been described with US models, maybe an oversight after they disabled autohold. I have no fix but but what I and others have found is that a firm foot/push on the brake pedal and it doesn't do this. Yesterday it started to roll back as I lightly held it on a hill stop sign, so I pushed harder on the brake pedal and then let off as an experiment and it didn't roll.

As 95% of us reading this already own one, this list of complaints is mostly useless. My car has been flawless and the nicest ride Ive ever owned for any price.
I would not say that @PriTesla2018's list is useless. Any member should feel welcome to post issues with their vehicle. I hope yours continues to be flawless, but if not, feel free to post your issues on this forum.

Well then you're not the intended audience, are you? Why do you feel personally attacked by the list of issues (not complaints as you stated). Your anecdote about it being the nicest ride you've ever owned for any price doesn't tell anyone anything. For all I know this is your first car, or you've been driving around in jalopies all your life.

Thank you, I'll have to try that out.

Sorry you experienced those problems with your ID.4.

I'm often reminded of an experience I had when I worked for a major engineering test equipment company. One of the guys in our group moved from Customer Service to Marketing. In Customer Service he dealt only with the 1% or 2% of the products we produced that had problems. In Marketing it was nice to deal with the 98% of the customers that received perfect products. He said that he thought all of our products were crap until he made the move.

Our ID.4 has not appeared to have any faults. We have nearly 9000 miles. Two weeks ago we drove round trip 2000 miles including lots of high speed freeway driving and a lot of very windy very large elevation gain and loss mountain driving. The car was a joy to ride and drive.

One of the amusing things we discovered is when going downhill for long periods of time the car will have more SOC than when we started. The feel of the car on the road is the most stable vehicle I have every been in. The low center of gravity, the great tires and tight steering are wonderful. It is very quiet and comfortable. We had days of 10 and 12 hours of travel time, of course stopping for charging, and did not feel sore from sitting for such long periods.

We did have one problem, but not with the car. Electrify America charging was very problematic at half of those stations we used. Several times it took phone calls and from 15 minutes to an hour to get the app on the phone, working with the charging station. Using a credit card worked perfectly. And, the free charging worked perfectly as well.

Regarding the tail light bulge:

I have been negligent on getting mine replaced in hopes that a better fix would be required/found by VW. I will be contacting the service department I am going to use and see if they can get the new clips before I bring it in.
Looked over the service notes and this bulletin is the fix they used. I popped the light bar back in again and it seems to be holding, but the weather has cooled off significantly as well.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy actually driving the car... I just wish that a $45,000+ vehicle had a little better quality control. But I know that even $100,000+ vehicles can have quality issues.
This is the second VW I've ever owned. First was a 2003 Beetle. It was junk. It smelled like melting crayons. The rear emblem fell off once after I closed the trunk lid. At one point it sat at the dealership for 2 weeks while they tried to figure out why it kept dying at red lights. So far my ID4 has been significantly better than that. However, if Tesla would've offered 2 year leases I would've gone with another Model 3... and maybe I'd be posting about all issues on the Tesla forums 😂

Do you have pictures from before and after the 3rd brake light fix? Have a similar situation and trying to work out the best course of action. How did it hold up over winter?
