Just had a conversation with ID.4 Customer Care and the new availability for the AWD is "Fall" 2021. Those cars will come from Germany, not TN. I wonder if they will be labeled as 2022 for US purposes? The German Auto industry does not follow the USA model year nomenclature in Germany, so it's not automatic that it would be either. They "might" want to hold the 2022 designation for TN cars, just to differentiate.

A 2022 MY with upgrades associated with that would be great. I would like to see a heat pump and other optimizations that typically happen after the introduction year. I will wait for AWD, but will have to compare the ID.4 with other AWD options from Nissan and Audi that are likely to be out at the same time.

Anyone looking at the Fisker Ocean? If I'm waiting until the fall of 21 for my AWD, I might wait just a bit longer for the Fisker.

Don't forget the new Kia and Hyundai EV's coming out.

By the end of 2021 we should have options in the CUV category for:
ID4
MY
Ariya
Hyundai ioniq 5
Kia (similar to ioniq 5?)
Audi Q4
Ford Mustang
Fisker (I know the least about)

Others?

Define "a bit longer" ;) There is no Fisker Ocean. They showed a prototype based on the MEB platform (the prototype was basically the cousin the of the ID4) but apparently these plans have changed and the Ocean will now be build on Magna Steyr's platform that also used by the Jaguar I-Pace. I would be very surprised if the Ocean would be available in 2021, but obviously hope I'm wrong.

I have had a reservation in for the Ocean for about a year. It is a great looking SUV, and they have been saying pretty consistently that they will start deliveries in the last part of 2022. But with any new car from anyone, those advertised delivery dates always slide out (as we all know now). Their lease plan, called the Flexee lease, can be anything from 1 month to forever, you can turn it in anytime you want with no penalty, is about $375/month, and comes with all the maintenance and a 30K mile per year allowance. If they can pull that off it will be a great deal. I think entry level prices are projected to be right at $39K before the tax credit. No idea on options or upper level trims.

I figure the Ocean delivery will slip in to 23 at best if it happens at all, and the ID.4 will be a great vehicle to have until I see what happens with the Ocean. Or to maybe keep and compliment each other.

I had a chance to drive a Fisker Revero GT and it was awesome. I have high hopes for the Ocean, but am realistic too.

VW customer care just called me to say order site had been fixed and it was now possible to modify reservations (prior to locking in). I asked for an update on availability. She said FE remains "Spring 2021" and AWD "Fall 2021". But, in a change, the RWD Pro is now "Spring 2021". She said she thought both the Pro and the FE would be available at about the same time, as they were both RWD. ????

With the current production optimized towards EU units (and EU fine minimalization), they are revising the release approach toward making a bigger splash in the US market by delivering more than the just the 1st Editions.

I can't wait that long, so I'm cancelling my reservation. Please take me off the tracking list. I hope everyone in the forum has a great experience with their ID-4.

Happy Trails!

One presumes that the USA First Editions are not produced, yet; if the intent is to maximize EU deployment because of regulatory requirements. If so, we might get some features that the EU FE is not getting, like the illuminated front VW logo which was reported to be missing because the EU FE models did not have an updated wiring harness. Other things?

The demo unit in Seattle had the illuminated front VW logo. I hadn't expected that but after asking the Rep, he switched it on and it was a nice touch to the front fascia. Now that VW said software is done, I'd expect more promising reviews once the US FE owners get a hold of theirs in Q1.

Not what I heard.

On 12-2-2020 I spoke with the ID.4/eMobility product specialist with VW of America in Herndon, VA, while looking at two D.4s at the sneak peak event at VW Santa Monica.

I was told that the AWD ID.4s would be arriving in the US from Germany in June 2021 and that AWD versions would be available to test drive at that time as well.

Yup--I was expecting some other sources in VWOA to offer different data. In a large organization, it's difficult to have everyone on the same page. The rep I was speaking to paused to consult her computer terminal to answer my question. If she is correct, it could be that the on-road specialist was working from data he had from earlier and had not seen more recent revisions. Or, he could be correct. Time will tell, and pity the poor customer trying to make an informed decision.

I just consulted the VW USA website with my iPhone. See below. Q1 is January, February, March. Q2 is April, May, June. Mid 2021 would be June 2021and coincides with what was told to me by the VW Corporate rep. The 3 VW of America employees I spoke with were on the road, but were still very much in sync with the latest on the ID.4. The engineer had done a software update to the preproduction vehicles after leaving Oakland, CA and the ID.4/eMobility product specialist had just had an early morning phone appointment with VW Germany the day I saw the ID.4s at the dealership.

Just checked the id4 configutor and now Drive option has been removed? Maybe just a glitch or maybe VW shutting down AWD orders?
Glad I have my reservation in.

I clicked on the build now configurator with my iPhone this morning and you can still choose AWD with mid 2021 as the available date.

Yes, I am also glad I already have my AWD ID.4 reservation in. It is first in first out and seeing that I put my reservation in the day after it was available to order I should be one of the first.

Hmmm. My dealer said that my AWD delivery date was updated to September. I spoke with him on Thursday. I would love a June delivery though.
I would love a June/July delivery, but my dealer told me almost a month ago that my AWD would likely be here in Sept.

Hmmm, I just called VW of America and after taking my information to find my reservation they told me also that they would be delivered in Fall now.
They did not know when in Fall or why they had been pushed to Fall other than the coronavirus pandemic.

Our AWD reservations will be built in Germany and will be 2021 model years according to the VW of America rep I was speaking with. The only info about the AWD ID.4 that was known was that the AWD version would have a slightly reduced range, “but wouldn’t be very noticeable.”
