My kit arrived. Ordered March 23rd, arrived April 14th, not too bad for something ordered directly from China

I got the front and rear kit and they advised me that the rear cam is now powered directly off the front camera, so no external power source is required. Not sure how that worked before, but it comes with a mini 4 wire extension cable with a connector at the front cam and another at the rear. All that's required is . . . . getting that cable installed under the headliner. Anybody with any experience with that, feel free to speak up and let me know how it went. I have the Pro model, so I won't have to deal with the glass roof, but I still don't expect it will be simple to do

At first I thought they had not sent the rear cam - It is very tiny and I mistook it for a part of the front installation, but when I found the extension cable for it, I figured it must be there some where 🤣

I'll let you know how the installation went when it's done!

As promised, here's my first update

It made good sense (at least to me) to install the rear cam first - When you install the front one, you'll be hooking up the cable from the rear, so that seemed like the logical order of things. The rear camera is tiny, tiny as it's hooked to the front one, so no need for a memory card slot or anything which would make it bigger. It's about 3/4 by 3/4 by one inch in size. It screws to the upper plastic piece on the rear hatch and you do need to drill 3 holes to mount it

There are lots of tips in this thread for the front install and I've read them all and . . . . I think I can safely say, the rear cam is harder to do than the front one. Routing the cable from the rear to the front is a . . . bitch - Especially if you've not had any prior experience with taking apart pieces of a car interior. FitCamX has a 3:45 minute video which is something you'll need to get really familiar with to get the job done - You'll pause and rewind that several times before you're finished

It's important to follow those instructions to the letter because the cable supplied for the rear camera is just barely long enough to reach up to the front. You don't have to take apart all the door sills along the rear and front doors - You just need to pry them open enough to run a fish wire from the back to the front. I opened up an old wire coat hanger and used it as a fish wire. A long Ty Wrap came in handy getting the cable through the right side weather proof bellows leading to the rear hatch - Don't leave any excess cable in the rear when you put the hatch back together, or the cable won't reach the front and you'll be taking the hatch apart again

It took me about 2 hours to get the cable run and I'm glad that's over! Hopefully I'll get the front done by tomorrow

Well, my suspicions were incorrect - I had a heck of a time installing the front one . . . . and it still doesn't work 😕

I ended up removing the mirror to get to the plug which needs to be removed. Had no problem with that and wired everything up and installed the camera, but then I couldn't get the mirror to twist back on for the life of me. Tried for the better part of an hour and then gave up and removed the camera, finally got the mirror back on and then reinstalled the camera. When I start the car now, I get an airbag warning and the camera doesn't work. It should have an LED light on it which lights when you start the car, but not mine. All the connections are tight, fuse F44 isn't blown so I guess it's time to contact FitCamX and see what they say . . .

Ok, going to give this a try. Has anyone had issues with the rain sensor after the FitcamX install? Since it uses the same electrical supply as the rain sensor I'm just concerned the rain sensor might not perform as well as original after the "Y" connector is installed.
Wish I had this cam this morning!

Mine works as it did before the install.

Yes, sadly mine. When I installed the front camera, it never lit up and the rain sensor no longer works and I've got an airbag error now too. I thought I must have blown the fuse, but it tests good. FitCamX sent me another unit and that came yesterday, but I won't have time to mess with it for a few days. I'll report back here whatever my outcome happens to be

Thanks for the feed back. I ordered one this afternoon. Most of the forum members who gave this a try seem to like it's performance. Getting the rain sensor plug disconnected looks to be a pain. From the videos, it seems like an install I can pull off.

As I’ve previously mentioned, The connector is a pain to get to and removing the mirror (counter clock rotation) is a must to get to it. Also, removing fuse F44 is highly recommended to minimize the risk of damaging the vehicle’s electronics.

Once it’s installed it just works. I’ve had my windshield replaced recently and no issues whatsoever when it went to the dealership for calibration.

Did the replacement FitcamX work? I just got mine today and did the install. My biggest problem was getting the mirror back on. After the installation was finished the camera did not work. NO power - no blue light when the car was powered up and ready to drive. I tried pushing the power button on the Fitcamx, but no good there either. The metal box under the plastic housing got too hot to touch so I uninstalled the unit and waiting to hear from Fitcam. Their installation video seems good at first but there are some critical omissions like how to remove and install the mirror. Also, showing the color code for the wires would help to confirm you got the right plug pulled.

Pretty much the same thing that I experienced. No blue light and no rain sensor anymore either

Contacted FitCamX and they promptly send me another complete kit. The second one worked fine, but . . . . I can't get it connected to the app to see the video - Still working on that

After much experience, it was easiest for me to NOT remove the mirror - I too had an almost impossible time getting it put back on after the first install, so when I did the second one, I left it there. It's tricky getting the Rain Sensor connector removed with the mirror still in place, but it's still possible and it's all downhill once you do get it out

Thanks for that feedback. I keep looking at the training video thinking I missed something, but can't see anything I did differently. Hopefully Fitcomx will replace mine as well. I bought direct from them. Wonder if maybe they are not making up those small connectors properly. All you need is one conductor not making contact and the game is over. I'll give it a try with the mirror left in place next time I try this. Putting the mirror back on was an hour of real frustration.

We can use a good ”How to” video just on removing and replacing the rear view mirror. There has to be a specific line up between the mount and the mirror base Before twisting to lock it on. Without knowing what that line up is results in an hour of frustrating trial and error. I fear snapping off part of the plastic mount resulting in a massive, no warranty, repair.

My system is (finally) working properly! The video quality is fine with the lower resolution camera you get when you order the front and rear combination - I assume it's lower resolution so you can store both the front and rear images in about the same 'space' on the chip as the higher resolution front only camera.

One tip I would add here is that it's very important to leave your Key Fob far away from the car when doing the install and to also do everything from the passenger seat, otherwise you may induce errors in the car's computer system - I got an airbag error because I didn't follow those instructions the first time around. It's different for everyone I suppose, but for me it was much easier to NOT remove the mirror - I've done it both ways and when you begin to think it's just not possible to get that plug disconnected without removing the mirror, well you may come to find that it's equally difficult when you try reinstalling the mirror later on with the camera in place

Overall, very happy with my purchase direct from FitCamX and their excellent support, both by sending me a second unit when the first one proved defective and by promptly answering every e-mail I sent and answering my every question. Certainly my best experience ever in dealing with any Chinese company

Completed the install in about 30 min. I have a Homelink mirror. Was too tight to remove the mirror. Fortunately the plug came off relatively easily after prying with a small fine flat head screw drivers.
Here is a video of the first drive- First Drive (Note due to the video publishing quality it is hard to see the car plate. However the original video is very clear)

Attention if you are buying the FitcamX. There are two profiles for the product, one a low profile that closely matches the OEM blank behind the mirror on the ID-4 and a profile that protrudes down below the mirror and obstructs part of the drivers view. Some may consider this obstruction minor, but for me personally, any obstruction of view forward is not good. If ordering from Amazon you will most likely get the one that hangs low. If ordering direct from Fitcamx they will ask you to take a picture showing the profile of your stock mirror and will send the correct, low profile, Fitcamx.

When I ordered direct from Fitcamx I sent the requested photo and they sent the correct low profile product, however, it was defective and would not power up. As a result Fitcamx replaced it using Amazon as a US supplier. This allowed me to get the replacement quickly. I appreciated the very quick turnaround rather then waiting for a new shipment from Asia. When it arrived and I installed it I realized the difference and obstructed view.

The replacement works great. Outstanding quality video so my only complaint is that Fitcamx offers two different profile products for the ID-4 when in fact only the low profile should be offered and is the only acceptable model for our ID-4’s. I considered returning the replacement but it seemed like a crap shoot that I would get the correct one from Amazon. The box it came in clearly says it’s for the ID-4 and replicates the OEM profile - In fact some do and some don’t. I suggest you order direct from Fitcamx and be sure to insist on the low profile model.
