Yesterday I got an email from the dealer saying that VW had issued a minor recall on my ID.4FE - something about "a cap on the lights may or may not be installed". Did anyone else get notified about this? Any idea what they are talking about?

No.

I was looking at the part numbers for the lights and there is a cap listed for North America that goes on the range adjustment screw, my guess is a DOT requirement to prevent interfering with the auto leveling motor?

Am I understanding correctly that the fix is to move the cap from the vertical to the horizontal adjustment? Wouldn't that then just shift the problem or does "FMVSS no. 108" not care about the vertical adjustment?

What's interesting here is that the fix is to move the cap from the vertical adjuster to the horizontal one. I read this to affirm our conclusions that the hardware supports the matrix functionality.

My dealer called yesterday to schedule my double check and mentioned this recall. It has been problem free so far. Hopefully this recall doesn’t make things worse.

Maybe they'll figure out why I keep generating the Dynamic Cornering Lamp error. Just zeroing out the fault isn't working. I doubt it's the caps, but maybe they will at least open the Frood.

I just checked with my VIN (Pro S) and it is also indicating the service is required for the recall. When I go in for my 60 day checkup in a couple of weeks I will mention it to them. Thanks for the heads up as I didn't get an email notification either.

I checked my VIN today and my Pro S has the recall notice. My dealer says they should have the parts in prior to my check up on the 16th and they'll do the recall then.

My Pro S on the other hand does not have the notice. So likely a problem they found at certain date and every one manufactured before that date will need the fix.

This appears to me to be a USA DOT compliance thing and no actual fault with the headlight system. They just want to ensure we don't have lateral beam movement [until hopefully one day approved]. It would suggest the root capability is there however.
I would be more concerned with vertical movement blinding oncoming drivers or not projecting far enough, which has always been an annual safety inspection check box.

Your dealer is waiting for the parts? As I read the recall notice, the fix is to simply remove the cap from the vertical aim adjuster and relocate it to the horizontal adjuster. That gives me the impression that no parts are required, but of course I may be misreading the recall.

That's what he said to me. The parts should be there by the 16th when I'm scheduled to come in already and they would take care of it then.

Would this prevent the headlights moving with the steering? I actually really love that feature.

In the USA we have lights that will also pool-illuminate to the side as you turn but not actually turn the headlight beams themselves as in Europe (we're not DOT approved for same, hence this subject mechanical safeguard).
I actually prefer them as they are, as I find the fully articulating lights distracting when turning, as suddenly no light in the direction you're still headed for a moment. So, to each their own. ;)
