I usually create a third key for emergencies but for some reason this ev is giving me an error message when I try to enter the immobilizer settings on my Launch Mini scan tool. I've haven't had any issues with other vehicles.

Welcome to the group. The ID.4 has Ultra Wide Band RF key technology. It measures "time of flight" of the key signal. The car knows exactly where the key is in relation to the car. It defeats amplified signal attacks, because the car measures how long the signal from the keyfob takes to get to the car. The might be your issue.

You will need tool that is capable to connect to VW server to bypass firewall....or authorized and approved Tool by VW.... good luck trying with Launch tool.....looking at database from VW this is not authorized tool to assign new key fob to the vehicle.....

It appears your desired 3rd key has been overcome by technological advancement. Empathy rendered as I find "future proofing" is near impossible these days. 🤷‍♂️

There is possibility if this company pass VW requirements to have this option..... This is usually required to have license and be registered..... having this type of option gives evil minds easy way to assign and steal vehicle. New type of security on latest vehicles are not going to be done anymore without being connected to the VW server for this type of work...and tool has to be approved by VW.

I would try to shop around for remote..... not many VW dealership's are main hubs for parts distribution.
