Does he not realize that the first wave is preordered, and if you order one now you’re likely to be waiting 3-6 months anyway?

On the plus side, almost every negative thing I’ve heard can be fixed through software, hopefully including range. My only downsides are wishing it was a little quicker (I’m no speed demon though, so not a huge deal) and no frunk, which is a silly thing to be annoyed about anyway. It’s a great car.

I'm really curious here about the obsession with the Frunk. Is it really that useful? I could see storing something there that I rarely use, the hood is not that convenient to open. Not trying to sour grapes this. I could see storing charge cable, tools perhaps.

No real obsession, like I said, it’s stupid to be annoyed about it. I only want one because I’ve never had one. :)
Honestly, if it was of decent size it might be useable for things like you mentioned, but otherwise it’s not really a huge selling point. While I really Ford’s approach of having a drain in it so you could use it as a cooler, it’s probably something I’d use once and then forget about.

I wonder if Ford decided to throw in a frunk because they designed the Mach E with the Mustang's long hood in mind and had a lot of unused space up there. The ID.4 doesn't have a long hood.

Frunks are overrated -- all of the decently sized ones I've experienced (Teslas and Mach-E) feel fragile and have to be carefully closed. I imagine it's to prevent damaging the hood if you slam it on hard, protruding objects.

e-tron and i3 have normal hood mechanisms that you can slam shut, but then their frunks only fit a shoebox.

I use the frunk for take out and leftovers (and gym bag when gyms were open). Great way not to smell up the car - other than that, not much use.

I feel that review is pretty lame. More a review of the charging network than the car! Pressing a button to release the charger is a feature, not a problem. I've had fellow EV drivers pull the charger from my car the minute my back is turned in order to start their own charge. One was so ticked off when she couldn't do it that she pulled the emergency shut off switch, taking the charger off-line until a tech came out to reset it! But the real flaw in the review was the attitude that drivers new to EVs would find things too complicated. He kept referring to things like one-pedal driving which are totally foreign to new EV drivers. You can't miss a feature you never knew existed. A decent salesperson would teach a new owner how to charge, and explain how various charging networks operate.

Yea, I don't understand the obsession with a frunk. I guess its more of a "look at this EV" symbol than anything, since ICE cars can't have one. A frunk would be nice bonus feature, but I would prefer that space utilized inside the car as much as safely possible.

I agree. The Mach E and Tesla Model Y are longer vehicles than the ID.4, and I the IONIQ 5's frunk in the U.S. will be tiny (24 liters). A frunk would be nice, but I'd rather have a shorter car with a spacious interior. The rear-engine 2-seater Corvette has a frunk, I wouldn't call its cabin spacious.
