I read in another thread that several months ago, VW advised that AWD would be delivered to the US in October through December. But they also mentioned delivery happening 6 to 8 months after order is locked.

We placed our reservation (Moonstone AWD Pro) on the Ides of March (for good luck), and it's still sitting in Reservation Confirmed (step 1). At this point, a delivery "6 months after Lock" would put us into 2022!

Are other spring orders still sitting in Reservation Confirmed? Just wondering if I need to recalculate my transportation plans. We were planning to sell one of our two vehicles this summer, since used prices are high.

Placed my reservation on April 11th, and received notification to lock-in on June 21st, with a deadline of July 5th. Currently on step 3, a Moonstone Pro S with Gradient AWD. My estimated pickup date is Sept 2021 - Oct 2021.

See this 107 post thread for much more discussion on this:
I have a delivery date for my AWD!
Mine and most AWD ordered up to a month ago are locked by now, and we all got Sep.-Oct dates now on the wheel of confusion. Check your portal.
Thanks, this is my Wheel

Unless I have a Java button to Place My Order that isn't showing in my browser, then I think I'm still on Step 1.
Reading that 8-page thread, I see:
  • 14 days ago "I ordered mine in early March and got the lock email today! "
  • also 14 days ago "My AWD reservation placed on 12/14/2020 just got the lock email today!"
... so it sounds like there are other Q1 reservatios that aren't locked yet, but I may get the good news any day.

I’m in your boat. Still sitting on step one since April 14.

Placed our order for an AWD Pro S on April 11 and we are still at level 1. Is there any rhyme or reason to this reservation process?

Do you think our models in feb 22 will be considered 2022 models? Will the 3 free years of EA be applied to 2022 models too?
I’m pretty sure it’ll be a 2021. Kind of sucks but I don’t care that much. Positive it will include free EA charging for 3 years.

I’m wondering if it will have rear disc brakes instead of drum brakes? Extra weight of the car etc. but probably drums. Again don’t really care.

It seems that initial reservations that were done in Dec 2020, or earlier, were given a 3 day window to lock in in March 2021. Most of those initial reservations seemed to have missed that mini lock in window. After that it seems that the lock-in request seems to come a few months after initial reservation is made.
As something like 80% of the braking on the rear wheels is done thru regeneration there is no need for disk brakes on the rear and the drum brakes can actually be better in the long run. So I don't expect any changes to the rear brakes.

I 100% agree. Registration in my state decreases if your car MY is older so that only benefits me if that's the case. Also I don't mind the drum brakes, even prefer them as they have less rotational mass. Bought my 2016 civic new and pads still have 8/32 after 45k miles. Point being, with regenerative braking I would be surprised if ID 4 needs a brake job before 150k miles. Thanks for the info on free EA.

I just made a AWD reservation today for delivery on Puerto Rico. It gave a March delivery estimate for my 2021 MY. It better be a 2020 MY or I will cancel that far into the new year to have last year's model.
Assuming you mean "it better be a 2022", I suspect you'll be disappointed. It will probably be classed as very late MY 2021 production. They can't just change the MY designation on the fly. My ID.4 was built in April 2021 and delivered to the dealer around June 20th.

Blame the pandemic! ;)

Fabio, I also placed my reservation on April 11 for an AWD Pro S Dusk Blue ID 4, but have yet to be offered a chance to lock in my order. I have a theory that if you live in a region that sees more orders for the ID 4 you get moved up in the queue. I live in Maine, would you mind telling me what part of the country you live in? Thanks. (Also, has there been any change in your expected delivery date range?)

I live in Maryland, but reading through some other threads someone mentioned that these builds won't happen until week 39. I'm patiently waiting and checking the VW portal on a weekly basis.

I put my AWD order in on 14 Apr and the portal still shows on Step 1. FWIW, I'm in Texas.
