Hi!

I am thinking of wasting my money on base carrier bars that I will likely never use! Yay!

Looking on line I see Part Number: 11A071151 and in the description I see "For silver rails only"

I thought the only difference between the Pro/Pro S rails and the FE/Gradient rails was the color. So why do the bars available say "for silver rails only"?

Will these rails fit my Pro S? Is there another option that I am just not seeing for sale designed for the Pro S? Is this a sick joke by VW?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

fits fine according to multiple sources, what i understood is that this is a translation error and that the bars themselves only come in silver

IDK, but I've looked at these $99 bars on eBay and I'm thinking I might get my money's worth out of them - Should hold my Kayak without any problems

Don
Anybody had luck with these eBay bars (or have bars in the Portland Oregon area I can borrow?)

The only use case we have for them is bringing home the Xmas tree (not wanting to string twine through the door seals and put it directly on the roof of the new car) so spluging on the official bars (and hoping that local dealers actually have them) seems silly.

Wondering if that 11A071151 part works for your ID.4 and if anyone knows if they will also fit the 2022 models coming out.
Honestly, they are still in a box waiting to be installed. Having said that, the dealer checked with VW and said the "silver only" was a translation error from Germany and it is a great fit. ...i assume 22 body is the same....

I'm in line to buy an ID.4, Pro S version. It's been a few months since the last post on this thread, so I'm wondering if anyone has an update? In particular:
1) If you've installed the VW crossbars (part #11A071151), how noisy is it once you reach moderate to high speeds?
2) Has anyone actually tried the VW crossbars with the black rails on the Pro S? Did it work? (despite the "silver rails only" wording on the VW website)

So I ordered the "Base Carrier Bars" with my Pro S and locked in my reservation in January of 2022. I picked up my car (finally!!!! very excited) yesterday and there were no base bars on top. When I asked the dealer, they had no idea they weren't included because it wasn't on my order slip. They did some quick research and seemed to believe that the base bars don't fit on the car (mine is a Pro S). This seems consistent with the 'silver rails only' comments above. Anyways, I didn't get charged for it but I also received zero communication about the accessory and that it would in fact not be included in my order.

Edit: Did some more research on VW parts and put in my specific car and trim. Looks like the base bars don't fit a Pro S. Pretty dumfounding considering I added that as an accessory when I locked in.

About to install these things.

Am I supposed to cut the black rubber insert?

Do I put it in so the flat part sticks out or the bubbled side sticks out? <---flat part up - thanks @PANZERidIV

Do I remove the insert when attaching the cargo box?

Thank you!

Yes you cut to length and the flat part is up. I mounted my RTT on top just like that as I do know with the hump sticking up it is very noisy from the wind.
Thank you so much.

It looks like for the VW roof cargo box I need to actually remove the rubber inserts as the box is secured by going into those grooves and putting tension on the bars.

I am guessing that will introduce a lot of noise.

So I am thinking I may need to cut the rubber so it covers everywhere but where the box installs on the bars. ... sounds like a pain. Especially for when I remove and reinstall this thing. Ugg, lol.

Unless you or anyone else can tell me from experience that the bars without rubber inserts installed on the highway makes no difference noise wise, in afraid that is what I will have to do.

I actually cut the rubber to length. It turned out to be surprisingly easy to keep track of which length matched the space. Just be sure you have the tracks marked so you know where to mount the brackets next time.
