VW has really dropped the ball on the ID.4. The tech is horrible! It’s like they hired programmers to write the code for this car, but they didn’t understand the concept of testing their work before delivery. Absolutely no quality control. Try to update software OTA - it’s an absolute nightmare. You get a prompt to login from your car, but that doesn’t work. You’re supposed to use your camera to hold over the little icon on the screen, and when you press “login”, nothing happens, it won’t let you enter any credentials.

The screen goes dark while you’re driving. Dealer has said for this past year there was no update available to fix it. Apparently now there is, but I have to wait for a month or longer because there’s another recall for door handles, and VW has run out of parts. It takes a day for each recall to repair, so unless I want to make an hour trip twice, I need to wait for parts availability.

Putting the car in Sports mode is a real joke too, as it automatically turns on the regen braking system. Why? The car constantly mixes up our iPhones, turns off the seat heaters on one side, but not the other, even though I didn’t touch anything. If I’m driving with the window down a little, when I try to roll it up, it goes down instead. If you get out of the car and don’t close the door all the way, you can’t open it until you force it closed. The charger is constantly getting stuck and I have to lock and unlock the car to get it out.

Another issue is that you have to press a series of menu choices to turn off your backup braking system whenever you reverse or you risk whiplash injuries from the car slamming on the brakes for NO REASON. Why not have a button on the console like other cars?

The button that holds the rear shelf in place broke off, again, no reason why, just broke. The dealer doesn’t even know what it is or how to order it!!! The tech is the slowest I’ve ever seen on a car. Takes forever to wake up. I have set the car to charge to 90% because of where I live. It never remembers, I have to do it manually EVERY TIME! I will never buy a Volkswagen product again! I am looking into the Lemon Law now.

Yeah, that's not racist.

Welcome to the forum.

My screen goes dark? No, it doesn't.

Maybe yours does because somebody programmed it in broken English.

Sheesh.
There are several posts on the net about the screen blanking out while driving. There's even a recall notice on it - I have it. You're lucky if it hasn't happened to you.

That’s not the problem. It thinks it is sensing a hazard behind the car, and slams on the brakes, but it could be just a reflection off the asphalt. Every time it’s happened, there was nothing behind me. There’s also several complaints on the web about this.
