Son is looking at EVs. I pointed him to the Bolt, considering that they are asking $28k before state incentives.

If I were sensible that's what I would be looking at for myself! :p

The price is going lower for the 2023 Chevy Bolts. Definitely worth a look.

Starting MSRP for the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV is $26,595, much cheaper than last year's $31,995. This is due to a $5,900 price cut that the Bolt EV received, making it even more affordable. Unfortunately, Chevrolet no longer qualifies for the federal EV tax credit, though you may be able to find state-level rebates and programs for buying an EV.

None of the new cars have the batteries with the known defect.
