Just got an email from Boston VW in Watertown, MA about the "meet and greet" schedule for the ID.4 next week.

From the email:

"On Tuesday, December 15th Volkswagen will be bringing the ID.4 to Boston Volkswagen for an in person Meet and Greet. They'll have experts available to answer questions and allow you a chance to take a look at the car in person. You'll be able to get a better idea of size and space, features, and get some photos in! Unfortunately, we won't be able to have test drives of the car as it will only be at our location for an hour and a half. It appears that the pandemic delays that have slowed down the production timeline have also affected our timeline for getting cars available for a test drive. Questions about when a car will be available are probably best saved for our representatives from Volkswagen as I do not have any updates yet."

Great news.

Do or should we call ahead? Plan on going to Minuteman VW.

Thanks.
The EV specialist didn't mention anything about making an appointment, but it can't hurt to call ahead -- it may depend on the particular dealership.

I just asked my dealer in Maine when/if the car was coming here. His response was that VW doesn't bring new introduction cars further north than Boston. Which means if I want to see the car now, I need to spend 6 hrs driving to see the car for 20 minutes... not going to happen. :(

Wed for me in the Worcester area! I’m 20 min from both Patrick Motors and Colonial Westborough. Colonial is my dealership, so I’ll go there if I check it out. I’ve seen enough pictures to satisfy me until test drives are available. My reservation is for an AWD PRO,so I’m trying to pace my enthusiasm. It’s not working.😂

@ixlr08,

Anything specific you would like answered or looked at?

Scott
Scott, Thanks for the offer. I did have a question, a guy going to the Portland Oregon showing answered it for me. At this point I just want to see the car in person and sit in it. Not worth the drive just for that. I have the AWD on order so I expect a RWD car will be available to check out before my car arrives.

It totally escaped my mind in Seattle, but would be great if someone could grab a VIN (if one exists on these vehicles). This might get us a shot to view the online user manual.

Thursday Dec 17th at Coastal for me. ;) (y)
Did you have to make an appointment?
It's great to find out about these ID.4 tours from this forum. As a lessee of an e-Golf and a customer of Coastal VW I would have expected to receive a notification from them.

No, my salesman sent a voicemail and didn't cite that an appointment was needed. Just show up and introduce oneself [as a reservationist or potential buyer]. It's a view/question only of course given the limited availability (no test driving).

btw: I don't know why on Thursday they would be down the Cape, then up to Braintree and then back down to Hanover. But then they didn't ask me to plan the event. :ROFLMAO:

I noticed that too. Doesn't make sense! Maybe the ID.4 will be sleeping in Hanover Thursday night? :)

ErickF, thanks for the info! (post #12) When I saw the prototype in Seattle, one of the things I was most interested in finding out was how the radio operated. I wasn't able to do so because the infotainment system wasn't fully functioning. I had a 2019 GTI for a while, and there were a couple things I didn't like about the radio, specifically, its FM and satellite presets were stored separately, and the maximum number of satellite presets was 18. I listen to a lot of different satellite and FM stations (more than 18) and wanted to see if the ID.4 worked the same way. Assuming it will operate the same way the ID.3 does (can't imagine they're different), it looks like both issues are resolved: there is a combined preset list for all bands, and it holds 36 presets.

Last week the ID.4 was in the greater Denver area for similar events. We were able to sit in the car and speak to the experts although no driving was permitted as they are still technically pre-production models. Vehicle was disinfected between every person. Was awesome to see it in person!!
