Demos were slated for early Dec but I could see a delay until Jan. Why not. VW Canada is staying committed to missing every timeline. Believe me, any information coming from dealers about deliveries is BS.
I thought the December date was optimistic, as i expected delivery of cars to Americans, before the expiry of tax credit at year end was a priority. Also manufacturing of vehicles with the statement package just started recently so shipping time made December delivery to dealers unreasonable.

Will the plant be building Canadian destined cars in batches? For the cars with the Canada only heat pumps and 8 way power seats, I think, from a efficiency point of view they will do batch production runs.

This brings up the question will they have adequate supplies of the heat pump to satisfy Canadian orders?

It was already announced that Canadian production had started I'd be shocked none of them have heat pumps. Once it starts, it's a continuous production isn't it? Meaning they don't run them in "batches" do they?
Scheduling the Canadian Pro RWD model in the regular production flow should be straightforward, take an American Pro RWD set metric toggle in software load, install bilingual labels, and substitute heated steering wheel for regular, ship to Canada.

Statement package requires a few substitutions to a Pro S model and Scheduling delivery of Canadian spec seat from parts suppliers.

Heat pump will require plant engineers to confirm assembly details. Training of production staff will be required. Production of the cars with heat pumps present some Scheduling challenges, due to supply availability of the European provided heat pumps and trained staff on the production line.

Hopefully the planners have ordered adequate number of heat pumps to supply the Canadian orders.

That bill of sale is done at the time of delivery? Does that mean the deposit just sits with the dealer and it's up to them to submit the orders or not in any order they like?
The deposit is with the dealer. They should email you a receipt and a link to the vw site that indicates your order is locked. They may also provide a guess on the wait time for delivery, expect something of the order 0f 18 to 24 months.

I placed my deposit online last week. I talked to the dealership today and they assured me that everything is ok with my order, now it is just wait. I asked them about a bill of sale. They just provided me with a six digit number and said not to worry everything looks good on their side.
Does that mean they are sitting on it and not submitting the order to VW?
They said I can use the 6 digit number to check the status with VW. Is there a portal for that?
I am worried that my order will be delayed because of the dealership. Is this normal or should I look for another dealer?

Thanks!
I did everything on line and never visited the dealership. They send me an email with a link to the vw portal "view my deal". So you may want to get more information from the dealership on how to access the portal.

You will not get a bill of sale until the car is delivered,

Did the dealership give an estimate wait time?

Ok. The email from the dealership with "view my deal" went to junk folder. It takes my to the same as the reservation page. It says "Your custom built has been locked" "Deposit placed".
Is that what everyone's show? Is that status supposed to change when there is any development on the order?

The Canadian version of the portal can be considered a work in progress and does not have the same functionality as the American version. Sometime in the future you may be able to track the status of your order.

My understanding is that the dealer will contact you when your reservation is getting close to manufacturing to confirm the details of the order and that you do not want any changes.

Anyone that's purchased their Canadian ID, did you get any of the extended warranty or maintenance plans? I've been spoken to about what the options are and I can't justify any reason to get them. Figured worst case, could always get extended warranty later on..any tips @Perry Rhodan or @stephen.kormilo ?

Anything in particular you may have missed during your PDI to look out for?

When the time comes I was going to to do the math on the prepaid maintenance package to see if it made sense financially. I had a look at the recommended maintenance schedule and there is not much to it, visual inspections, occasional brake fluid changes and cabin filters. If the price was reasonable I may purchase just so that I don't have to debate with the service writer what service work needs to be done.

They have been producing almost 4 months and not planning to deliver any units here soon ???
The only reason would be, they would like to increase prices after new year and reorganize the orders.I can not think any other reason than this.
Speculation, they may want to do a production run of Canadian vehicles towards the end of MY23 production.

Just a heads up, Capilano VW in North Van told me about a week ago that all and any waitlists have been amalgamated into one giant list for VWoC. I asked for explanation and was given this scenario.

Example:

-Person 1 new orders a MY23 Sept 1st
-Person 2 get their MY22 converted to MY23 Sept 4th

Person 2 is treated like a new MY23 order and goes after Person 1.

Supposedly this happened about a week ago
Seems the story keeps changing, the unfulfilled orders for MY21 and MY22 were to converted, in September, before opening up for new reservations in October. Some of the dealerships were taking unofficial reservations before the official on line reservation process opened up, and may have entered them into the system before they should have.

Some dealerships seems to doing better expectation management than others and VW communications is lacking.

When I submitted my reservation , in October, VW was indicating 6+ months for delivery and my dealer was saying 12 to 14 months . Now VW is saying for new orders expect to get a MY24.

Hopefully, once the factory is running at full speed there may be capacity to start fulfilling Canadian orders.

In this example how did a new order for MY23 get entered, as the official reservations portal did not open until October?

I checked in with a few EV dealerships a couple of months ago too, generally same sentiment from Hyundai (Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60, even KONA!), Kea (EV6), even the higher-end Audi/Volvo variants -- all new orders are realistically 2 years out in Ontario. Most aren't even taking new orders anymore because the timelines are so far out. I got the vibe that Ford Mach-E might be available sooner but not personally interested.

Reading between the lines, guessing they're all suffering from similar component shortages, and/or similar misallocation of shipments to Canada vs US.
I think the common issue is battery supply, it is taking longer to ramp up capacity than the manufacturers expected.

I just checked the delivery time for a Tesla model 3 is one month and a model Y is 3 months. I take this as increasing interest rate resulting in a reduction in demand.

Hopefully we will get some clarity, in the new year around any rationale around delivery dates.

There could be some interesting politics and discussion between VW USA and VW Canada around quota allocation. Another factor could be transfer pricing, the Canadian dollar has gone down vs US $ since the Canadian prices were set.

I don't mind sharing comm number but as I am out of the country, I don't have that paper with me.

I can share factory order # as I just received the email with it. It is 5P397*
I'm not sure if order number has any significance with respect to delivery dates. My order number is about 150 less than yours. My order was submitted on line 8 October 2022 and given a estimated delivery of Q2 2024

Just got an email from Volkswagen Canada.

Got assigned a Factory order # with estimated delivery date: Q2 2023*
*Subject to change

"Jimmy,

Thank you for placing an order for an ID.4, and welcome to our electric family! We’re thrilled to share that your order is registered in our system and has been confirmed with Volkswagen Canada. It’s an exciting first step on the road to #BetheChange as we build an all-electric future together.

With global supply chain issues causing delays, waiting for your vehicle will take some time. And we get it, no one likes delays. So that’s why we’ll be sending you regular updates on the status of your order – so keep an eye on your inbox. "

Placed my order Oct 2021. thru Vancouver Volkswagen

I had another order with Abbotsford Volkswagen and just got another email that stated Q2 2024* for my 2nd order. VW Abbotsford order originally placed Nov 2021.
I wonder if VW noticed the two orders and scheduled the second order at the end of the queue.

One possible explanation for the delivery dates shown in confirmation email is that VW Canada allocated delivery dates based on reservation dates and the number of vehicle allocated to Canada for MY23.

Once the MY23 allocation was exhausted people were given a delivery date of Q2 24.

I expect VW Canada is asking for an increase in the number of vehicles allocated to Canada.

Once MY24 allocation, trim details (return of optional speakers) and pricing are finalised we should be contacted.

If the US CDN exchange rate does not improve I will expect a significant price increase. I just did a pricing comparison of a American Pro S Plus AWD vs our equivalent and we are getting a deal when you consider today's exchange rate.

Dealers in Canada must be having a total blast since Friday afternoon, answering calls from irate would-be ID.4 buyers who just got emails saying they have to wait another year, when that ETA is likely nonsense...
The dealers and VW Canada are getting a lesson on how not to do customer communications.

We can just speculate on why this happened, was VW headquarters unaware of the number of "unofficial reservations" held by dealers before the on line reservation portal opened?

The way I'm interpreting the Q2 24 is you are going to get a MY24, and we we get back to you when we know more.

Well the website DOES say 12-18 months… so for me q2 2024 would be understandable
Agree, what my salesman told me in October, what was on the website (expect a 2024 model) and the email all are in agreement. So to me no surprises.

I also, expect the information in the email is not a surprise to the management in the Dealerships. The general information content of the email would have been approved by head office management. Whoever prepared the email would not want a dealership owner calling their manager or worse the CEO of VW Canada.
