I talked to a few dealerships in Ontario and one in Quebec. Most of them said there's no way deliveries will come sooner than November. One dealership said they're expecting some demo cars in the summer, but actual order deliveries in the winter. One dealership said they're expecting their first 20 deliveries this summer (all Pro S of various colours they ordered before taking deposits), the rep said he's hoping for June/July but August/September at the latest. I called another dealership after that to see what they thought about that timeline and they said they're crazy because all the dealerships get the same information and there's no way shipments will come that soon.

🤷

No clue what to expect. Consensus seems to be towards November/December but hopefully the summer timeline happens. I got the impression that BC's timeline is a bit ahead of Ontario, but I haven't talked to dealerships there.

Curious to hear any other reports. :)

Just got a call from the "we're getting ID4s early!" dealership and turns out it wasn't true :)pikachu-face:). The original rep made it sound like they already ordered 20 cars and deposits get to choose from whatever arrives on a first-come basis. This rep was all "sooo we're making the orders now, what trim do you want?" etc. Sounds about right.

Also they suspect that AWD options will ship within a month of RWD options, and since AWD is coming closer to end of year I'm guessing September~November for RWD in Ontario which is about what the other dealerships said in the first place.

I wonder if the RWD allocations are maxed out, so they're trying to offload some customers to a later AWD reservation to avoid missing out on customers who can't wait or don't want the upgrade.

Also sticking with RWD, just watched this review and the performance seems more than good enough for anything I'd care about and I'd probably take advantage of the extra range far more. Not to mention getting the car a month+ earlier. :)

Latest update in Ontario is "best case is December" 😭

But "on the bright side" they have a demo ID.4 on-site for a whole day in mid-December that we can test drive for 15 minutes. 🙄

Anyone have a firm delivery update in Ontario? Our latest estimate is "end of Jan or early Feb, but still haven't been assigned a VIN. Ordered RWD in early May, dealer changed the order to AWD last month because allegedly those are coming first.

Sounds like VW has decided to add our orders to Chattanooga. Guess I’ll wait until I hear from my dealer. I like the car too but am in the same boat. What model did you order?
Originally RWD Pro with Statement, but more recently switched to AWD Pro with Statement per suggestion of our dealer (they said that AWD models are being prioritized now). When did your order go in?

Just saw that Dixie got 3 of their orders in and Newmarket has a demo apparently. I went to Dixie today, they're all pre orders from May. One's in the showroom at the moment

I still have no concrete ETA. But seeing it more often makes me happy

Incidentally, Dixie is our dealership too, and our pre-order is from May too. -_- I guess we barely missed the cutoff before they hit logistics issues?

My original order was in August, 2021. It was converted to a 2023 in September, 2022. My dealer told me the ETA. It would have been delivered November/December 2022 if it hadn't been for the folding power mirror and 360 camera parts shortage. The dealer told me that my order was in the top 10 for all Canada.
FWIW, our order was in May 2021, converted to 2023 model in August 2022. Current ETA is officially: Not Available. (Before that it was November, and before October, and before September, and before July, and before... generally 1-2 quarters away.)

Unofficially, the dealership's current vibe is "Spring 2023". We were in the first order batch for our dealership. That said, this is Ontario which is generally far behind BC/Quebec.

I guess your dealer took your deposit well before being able to officially place an order with VW Canada
Yea, they took the deposit on May 5th, their printout from the VW portal shows the order was created May 24th on VW Canada. 🤷

I've had a lot of issues getting consistent information from dealerships, and there were many times they told me things that were simply not true. At one point, the entire staff was cut and replaced with new leadership and fresh hires. I'm not sure if things are better now or not, but it has been a rocky journey.

Just saw two ID.4's go by on Bloor in Toronto in a 5min interval. 😭 Maybe they were dealership demo cars that got sold and replaced with 23's. One was a pretty red one with a black roof.

A family member is buying a new Subaru and I had a chance to ask about the Solterra... the sales guy said the wait is 2 yrs. HAHAH.
I checked in with a few EV dealerships a couple of months ago too, generally same sentiment from Hyundai (Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60, even KONA!), Kea (EV6), even the higher-end Audi/Volvo variants -- all new orders are realistically 2 years out in Ontario. Most aren't even taking new orders anymore because the timelines are so far out. I got the vibe that Ford Mach-E might be available sooner but not personally interested.

Reading between the lines, guessing they're all suffering from similar component shortages, and/or similar misallocation of shipments to Canada vs US.

I just checked the delivery time for a Tesla model 3 is one month and a model Y is 3 months.
I've been keeping an eye on Tesla Model 3 delivery timelines in Ontario since 2020ish, it has been fairly steady the whole time (1-2 months range). I guess that's the benefit of having a decade+ of EV production head start over other manufacturers. Hope everyone else will get there eventually.

Just got my "your ID.4 order has been confirmed" email.

  • Province: Ontario
  • ETA: Q2 2023.
  • Deposit: May 2020.
  • Converted to 2023: August 25, 2022
  • Build: 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro AWD, Blue, heat pump, statement package, pano glass roof.

That said, every previous estimate I've received has also been roughly 2 quarters out, so I'm reluctant to hold my breath. 🙃

Given that about 1,000 of us on here all just got the same email but with wildly different ETAs, I’m going to say the ETAs are meaningless and the more important clue is the simultaneous email blast…especially since people like @serious.sam.4all are getting their cars in the immediate future, and he ordered in Feb 2022.
My guess is more that the order date is closer to meaningless. Perhaps there is something in the spec that puts people in higher/lower priority. Maybe statement/pano roof is lower priority? Not sure.

Or perhaps the deposit queue got reshuffled when things got converted to 2023 on a per-dealership basis. I really wish there was some amount of transparency about this.

Maybe we can figure out some clues if everyone shares their order specs?
