I’m in BC and I’ve ordered an AWD. Sales guy said (two weeks ago) RWD will arrive in Sept, and RWD in Oct. But I’m not holding my breath. I anticipate more Nov/Dec.

The microchip shortage for car manufacturers will not be sorted out for the next couple of months, perhaps more. Microchip manufactures said (1st week of May) that they will have more capacity up and running in approx 100 days, which is around mid August. So by the time more chips are made, delivered to auto companies, put into vehicles, and those vehicles are shipped from Germany to Canada, then distributed in Canada... I think Nov/Dec is optimistically realistic. I hope I’m wrong and receive mine sooner! 🤞

I'm still on the fence for the AWD, it was my initial choice and then went with the RWD due to higher range, lower cost and unknown availability. Now should they have both when mine arrives I could reconsider.
My dealership says RWD will arrive one month earlier, then AWD will arrive. In Canada, they are expecting more AWD orders. But for the vast majority of people, the RWD will be great. The low centre of gravity combined w/ RWD provides excellent stability in rain/snow/ice - as long as you have winter tires in the winter, the RWD will be excellent. Check out the 2nd half of this short video for a better explanation and visuals:

Mine said no demo whatsoever since all of them are to be sold with a huge waiting list... I'm in QC and dealer in Boucherville. Gotta talk with another one see what they say.
I noticed that ID4 is sold in about 10 dealerships in BC, in about 10 dealerships in ONT, and in about 25 dealerships in Quebec. I wonder why so many more in Quebec? More appetite in Quebec for EVs? More provincial rebates? In BC, we have a $3,000 rebate (in addition to the federal $5,000 rebate).

It’s purely chips shortage. The factory sits in Wolfsburg, far from the flooded hills.

At the moment, orders in Europe can take up to 5 months as well. It just sucks, but it is hitting pretty much all the main brands here currently.
I believe ID4 is made in Zwickau, not Wolfsburg, which is about 3.5 hours or 300+km north.

ID4 made in Zwickau

I read a couple months ago that the microchip shortage will get better in mid-Aug, but by the time VW receives new microchips, installs them into vehicles, and then ships those vehicles - all takes time…

I got some info on Canadian orders. Apparently, Canada will get approx 2,600 ID4 from Germany (majority of these orders will likely be AWD).

Only 3 provinces get ID4 right now (BC, Quebec, Ontario).

BC is allocated approx 25% (approx 650 vehicles). 10 dealerships in BC selling ID4. Some dealerships will get more allocations than others. Not sure how that works. But if you’re interested in a Made in Germany ID4, book it soon!

I wonder if those 24 are extra stock they ordered. I’m curious to find out which dealership sells the most ID4 from this first round of orders. Clarkdale VW thinks it will win as it sold the most eGolfs (or so they say). But I think Capilano VW & Openroad VW might be contenders.

I never got called for a test drive here in Toronto. I guess it was for people with deposits only. Also, I'm just interested in the AWD version so maybe they figured no point in calling me.

That old MK2 was the best looking Golf. Awesome!! I loved the old Lancia Integrale too.

All of these EVs are being delayed. Ioniq 5 is delayed, Ariya even having a longer delay. I did notice Audi putting the price of the Q4 on their website. Starting at 60k, progressive is 65.3k, Techniq is 68.3k. No Fed rebate.

BMW i4 40 starts at 55k which I thought was quite aggressively priced. The premium package is 7900 bucks so you really are looking at 63k.

I'm thinking of leasing for the first time in my life and I noticed the VW lease for a ID4 AWD with statement is the same lease price as a Tesla 3 AWD. the VW is 53k after the rebate and the Model 3 is 72k. Does anybody else find the lease deal really expensive relative to it's price??
I think in Vancouver they only called people for test drives who reserved w/ deposit.

I was also looking at Audi Q4, but it’s pricey and no rebates. Same w/ Tesla Y.

VW ID4 is good value right now (prices should come down when they start producing it in US & as competition ramps up). And I think ID4 is a better set up than Ariya, as ID4 is RWD (even the AWD is RWD biased, making it a very planted but nimble ride - the front wheels are free to steer while the rear provides power). Ioniq 5 has decent specs and faster DC charging, but I prefer size/shape of ID4.

Intruiged to see what the Toyota/Subaru EV BZ4X will be next year. That might be a decent competitor to the ID4 if it qualifies for rebates.

I’m not convinced msrp will go down once it’s produced in the US. Instead I think we’ll see additional equipment like perhaps HUD being added to the base model whit similar pricing to what we see now.
Biden admin has alluded they would expand incentives to EVs. They might revamp current $7,500 tax credit (which currently Tesla & GM have used up) into a new $10,000 tax credit or point of sale rebate to all EVs (including Tesla & GM). If this happens, prices would remain the same. ID4 would become even better value under that incentive. VW would have no incentive to lower price. This would be bad for Canadians, as price would remain high for us.

New member here! Just reserved an ID.4 AWD Statement package in Montreal. The dealer told me the delivery will be in ~June 2022 due to the current backlog.

I hope the Quebec and Federal subsidies will still be in place. The $5K federal subsidy is currently scheduled to expire on March 31st 2022 if it's not renewed, and the $8K Quebec subsidy could be "adjusted" after this date...
Just wondering, did the dealer mention if your ID4 (June 2022 delivery) would be Made in USA? Or Made in Germany?

Just had an update today from my dealer here on Vancouver Island. I asked about the production timeline and when the VIN number will be issued for my AWD. He told me that the vehicle is already in production and that I should get the VIN number in a few weeks. The target completion date is Sept. 17, 2021.
He also noted that there was a 3-week delay due to the chip shortage earlier and that there is no complete shut-down of the Zwickau plant for summer holidays.
Good to hear. Sounds like you have an informative dealer/sales rep. My rep has had no clue and given me minimal info. In fact, I was the one who educated him about the chip shortage in April, when I placed my AWD order. I still haven't received any word about dates. At my test drive a couple of weeks ago, he informed me that production was delayed 5 weeks, pushing my delivery to Nov.

Please let us know if you hear any more updates. Thanks!

Curious. As far as I know, Quebec and BC are the only provinces getting cars until 2022, so perhaps our allotments are already filled. Chattanooga is supposedly coming on stream later next year, but “Out of Spec” seemed to think they were initially focussing on a small battery version to get the price down. Perhaps you should check with other dealers in the area.
Ontario not receiving any ID4 in this first round w/ BC & Quebec?

Good news for you!
Ordered an AWD from Victoria VW on July 27th and was told December/January. I was also told they had just opened the books up for the AWD (hah!) and reasoned that I would probably get a RWD perhaps later still with order backlogs. Am thinking I could be in for quite a wait. Both VW and Infineon (they make the chips in the inverter according to Sandy Munro) are reporting chips shortages.
I just hope my old Land Rover holds out until then - I was hoping to use the Scrap-It program but it’s cancelled as of October 31.
Patience is a virtue…
Scrap It program in BC expires Oct 31, but they might bring it back (possibly under a different name or program) in the new year. I’ve been writing to my MLA. I suggest you write to yours (and encourage others to do so, too) - if you wish to see more EVs in the world!
