According to Volkswagen Zwickau Celebrates Production Rate Of 1,000 BEVs Per Day
VW is producing 1000 ID platforms a day from a single factory. Of course these are ID3, ID4, Q5 and they’re distributing globally but that’s 20,000 cars a month. I’m hoping even with the backlog those who ordered last summer will see their cars before July??
Those numbers are from a year ago. I hope they get back there soon, but I wouldn’t hold my breath with the way things are going right now.

I had another back and forth with my dealer here on Vancouver Island. Shitty news for me. I am third in line on the dealership list. I was inquiring for news and was told I would be receiving and email ...

"your going to get a email Monday it is going to say that the Wolfsburg factory is shut down lots of our parts come from the Ukraine and Russia so they are working hard to get the Chattanooga plant ready to rock and roll starting date (June 15ish) the good news is you ID4 is going to be a 2023 model will come some improvements to the vehicle and different trim packages will keep you posted cheers"

I hate platitudes. I responded

Be sure of your information. Cuz, what you said does not jibe with reality. I don't want a car that comes off the first production run of a factory (would you, honest now). They will be riddled with problems. I grew up in Windsor.
So explain this please. And think about how you word your email.
Volkswagen Will Resume Production At German EV Factories

And then was told I was 3rd in line and my car would be produced in Chattanooga. That according to the area manager.

And so, Ill be putting another reservation down for an early 2024 knowing that a majority of first production runs will be lemons.
Thanks for your confidence in us. That really make us warm and fuzzy.

Hey, hold on a moment! This isn’t about the workers. There are plenty of comments about issues with the First Edition on the forum, built in Zwickau, as well as people boasting about buying and selling multiple cars in the past year, presumably to benefit from the tax write-off. We had to wait until September to see a trickle of IDs, and orders were cut off at the end of June. @SACBC and I ordered in July from Vancouver Island and have now been told to expect a 2023 from Chattanooga with no guarantee on price or spec, sometime between September and November. US buyers who ordered before Christmas had their price guaranteed, and I read of one guy ordering his in October expecting in May. If anyone has a beef, it’s with VW Corporate. After three delays to my order, I finally snapped and bought another EV. Nothing to do with the car or the dealer. But where you pay $4-5US for a gallon of gas, we pay $8. We have rebates based on the price of the car, which will possibly not qualify any more, federally or provincially, at least here in BC. @Plant Peon, we only have 38 million souls up here in the Great White North, but there are more people living on the coast than in all of Norway, where forgiving their taxes has resulted in massive buy-in, and VW has been quick to make sure lots of ID.4s are available there. I guess it would be like asking you if an 82Kw ID.4 AWD Statement with Gradient would be the same deal if the tax break disappeared and it went up to $60,000 US. It’s still a great car, regardless of where it’s built, but…
That may be all well and good, but what I was referring to was your comment about how the vehicles will be “riddled with problems”.

As were cars from Zwickau, from software to sensors. Now there’s a problem with parts shortages like the electric rear gate sensors. VW prides themselves on QC, but is infamous for keeping dealers in the dark. The problem is that they are short-changing us, your neighbours. Telling me that I can expect my car as late as November when the factory goes into full production in June tells me that we are still not being treated fairly. There are 9000 back orders up here, and dealers are being told up to 4000 are being culled as they can’t fulfill, and they aren’t allowed to take new orders. Can you imagine what VW US would face if they tried that? Sorry, but it really upset me enough to cancel an order I had already waited for eight months.
Ok, I get that you are unhappy with VW corporate (sales) but that has no bearing on the production line in Chattanooga or it’s workers. And none of that means that the vehicles that come out of Chattanooga will be riddled with problems. That is an unfair statement.

I appreciate your calling me out on my hastily worded post. Have a great day!
No worries, I don’t hold a grudge. Just wanted to make sure that it is known how hard Chattanooga is working to launch a high quality product. It is an extremely important launch for all of VW worldwide, but especially for the US, so no one wants it to go poorly in any way.

Lots of overtime coming to catch up. We Canucks want your cars - 9000 backorders to just 3 of our 10 provinces (and 3 territories, though not too many chargers in the north yet) so far. Keep at it and remind the bosses you need our hockey players to keep your teams winning the Stanley cup, hint, hint…
And I should have said for the whole North American region instead of just US. But you know how we Americans are. 😏

I also said, get a real concrete start up time for Chattanooga, (we know the first test model came off the line last fall) reveal the changes coming to the NA ID4, and set the prices. We all know everything is going to be 2023 for this fall going forward. And start giving Canada a reasonable number of cars.
I highly doubt they will give you a concrete start up time for Chattanooga, even if they are in a position to know what it is. Also, the vehicles to be produced, for what markets, and order there of, has already been determined and planned.

I am just wondering, many people say they are "X" number at their dealership but from what I got from talking to multiple dealers here in Ontario is, even if you are first in queue at your dealership, everything depends on when your order was placed as VW puts every order in queue regardless of dealership. So being 1st or 100th does not matter its just depends on what is your order location at VW. Now VW may ship cars to dealership in batches (with other cars), so you may get car a few days here or there depending on the dealership. I may be wrong, what are your thoughts or what did your dealer say about it?

If they are really starting to produce cars in Chattanooga from 15ish June then, I think its pretty high chances that yours will be 2023 from there.
I am not 100% on the logistics side(getting the vehicle from the plant to the dealer) but the order you are at any given dealer does not mean all that much unless all of the orders are for the same trim line. Plants tend to produce in batches and not jump around a bunch. So as you said, it really matters more where in the queue you are at the plant.
That all can go out the window if they sit at a port till a large number stack up for the trip over the pond however. But I think you catch my drift.

The estimated production capacity when the Passat, Atlas, and Cross sport were all produced together was about 250,000 per year.
The Passat is no longer produced. That may give you some rough idea?
That was also when there were no supply chain issues to contend with.

there is not even a single picture of so called "American Style" center console or even if it is true as everyone refers to just 1 article
I'm willing to bet there are, somewhere. But security around them at the plant is tight and people don't want to loose their job over something silly like posting a picture.

It will be really helpful if @Plant Peon can confirm, if getting commission number on file means my order is locked?
The way I understand it is an order has to be locked in order for a commission number to continue to a VIN assignment and spot in the production line.
I don’t know if a commission number is assigned until a reservation is locked. So maybe those on here who use the backstage info from the portal can confirm that part or not.

and the American plant will take over production near the end of Q3(Aug?). This means we’ll see both American and German built 2022 ID.4s. The German built ID.4’s will likely start arriving near the end of this year with potential to see them here around November.
Hate to burst your bubble but there won’t be any 2022 ID4s coming from Chattanooga. So whoever told you that is incorrect or misunderstood.

Thanks, but the rep did say 2023 Chattanooga cars - I copied one paragraph out of a lengthy email. Sadly, Canadians will have seen no new cars for almost a year, despite 9000 backorders.
Ok. Just making sure you weren’t told incorrect information. Sometimes the dealers get ideas for things that I have no idea where they come from. 😂
