My dealer told me about 12-15 months from Feb,2022 when I ordered, so If they start production even in Sep, it may be about the same time when backlog can get clear. Let me keep my fingers crossed before VW says anything.
My dealer (Newmarket) said the same thing when I ordered on Feb 28th, so I figure it's a safe bet it'll be coming on a train from Tennessee instead of a boat from Germany.

One question that probably can't be answered right now is what I'll end up actually buying - my order sheet says 2021 but if it's coming from Tennessee, would that mean I'll likely get a 2023?

Same with me, I ordered on 19th and My dealer in Brampton told me the same thing, it will be 2023 and will be coming from Chattanooga.
Btw on order sheet it says delivery date as 2022 Dec. but dealer told me minimum Feb-May 2023. What did your dealer tell you about expected delivery?
2023 sure will be nice, because then we'll be sure to get all the extra parking sensors, whatever slightly altered centre console they're putting in there, etc...

My order sheet has no delivery date at all, but he said the standard estimate they were giving was 12-15 months as well, but that was so they could "under-promise and over-deliver".

Only issue I have is price, If you did your research with others like Ioniq5 and EV6 both have already gone up by about 2-3k now but their base price was already 2-3k below 45k max price limit, which now is 44995. But in our case base model was already at 44995 so even if they increase cost by 5$ it will not be qualified for iZEV rebate and Ontario has no rebate as well, so we need to pay full price nothing terrible but its good to have.

In US people who have locked their orders, already got price increase of about about 500-700USD. which will roughly come around 700-1000 in CAD. I feel that is the reason they have stopped taking any further orders. So once they start production in Chattanooga, I hope there will be a smaller battery base model under 45k so we will still be qualified. They are already discussing to increase this 45k limit for SUVs and trucks to give them benefit of this rebate I hope this happens.
I have a feeling we'll get some good news about changes to the iZEV program on Thursday...fingers crossed anyway:

The plan includes $9 billion in new spending mostly to expand existing climate action grant and loan programs, including another $1.7 billion for electric vehicle rebates. More details on the new spending is expected in the next federal budget when it is tabled later this spring.

Canada's new climate plan includes tougher schedule to shift vehicle sales to electric models

When I asked him if my order is locked, he said he is not sure about what Locked order mean exactly but what these numbers mean is, not built yet and waiting for building and delivery.
I always just assumed the whole "locked" thing and status codes only applies to the US online orders and that we'll have to just wait patiently until we get a call from the dealer with more information.

What strikes me with the new federal rebate levels is Tesla being completely left out while their competition getting a nice $5k deduction at the point of sale. This will quite possibly have an impact on their sales.
I dunno, there's no rebate offered in crypto anyway...

I ordered a Volvo XC40, having ordered an ID.4 July 2021 and bailed when told no car until late this Fall. The dealer ordered their last stock car in February 2022 and I reserved it in late March. It arrives at the end of the month, so yes, 7 weeks from building in Belgium to arriving on the lot in Victoria. That’s why I scratched my head over VW beginning processing Canadian backorders in June 2022 with an ETA here of November.
Oh gotcha, for a second I thought you were talking about an ID.4 coming so quickly

Probably more like pandemic/war/etc. supply chain nonsense screwed up model year plans for them...if any company had been able to produce anything on anything like a normal schedule, whether it's breakfast cereal or cars, none of these funny little quirks would be happening. :(

Basically, Zwickau built 50,000 ID.3s and ID.4s in the first quarter, plus a bunch of Q4s. They plan on building cars for our market starting in Q3, and expect them to arrive in Q4 sometime. Whether they are from Zwickau or Emden, who knows? I suppose they will then start shipping 2023 Chattanooga models. Based on what I was told, VW Canada was getting a quota of about 4,500 cars for the model year 2022. I wish you all luck - my Volvo is on a train ride to the coast and I was lucky as it was their last car before the new model. Too bad about the VW but I think supply chain woes are with us for a while yet, so plan accordingly, buy what speaks to you and try to be patient!
I wonder if dealers here are given any insight into where in the queue the various customer orders are, e.g. if there's a rough order date past which you won't get one of the German-made cars (assuming that information is true), or even if they allocate based on order date rather than some other system like trim.

If 2023 model is really different and has added/mainly removed some features from original order then there will be a backlash from public, so it seems like having new ordering process is the way to go.
From the company's standpoint I can guess they probably don't want to be in the position of having to fill too many "2021" and 2022 orders with 2023s, and wind up having most of the 2023s spoken for by 2021/2022 orders even before the pre-orders for 2023 start. That'd be a really difficult hole to climb out from.

Yes that makes sense, specially they can save a lot in import duties, shipping and delivery time. But what I am saying may be possibility as well if 2023 model will be too different and VW have to bump up current reservation holder's models at the same cost
Bad for them, good for us

Here's what he told me: VW Canada told dealers across Canada to stop taking orders on February 24th. Yes , there was some orders that were cancelled by VW Canada, mostly from people that ordered trough more than one dealer trying to beet the waiting line. Other orders that dealers made themselves without an attach client to the order.
Either that's not entirely true, or nobody told my dealer because they cheerfully took my order and my $500 on February 28th. :D

From your experience so far, do this looks like an official order, or some kind of ''placeholder'' that i'll need to fight for a place in the actual production queue.
Welcome!

I’m in the same boat as you, as I ordered on Feb 28th with a $500 deposit. My understanding is that we (Canadian customers who have ordered from the dealer) have actual orders in and don’t have to worry about “locking” or any of that.

I haven’t received that form with the commission number, but coincidentally I stopped in to my dealer today to see how things were going.

They told me that in March they received an email saying that there were only so many orders that could be filled and that some specified customer orders had to be cancelled. If your order had to be cancelled your dealer was supposed to contact you (presumably to either return your deposit or ask what you want to do.) If you didn’t hear from the dealer then your order is safe and waiting to be built.

Funny you should mention that…I popped in to my dealership today and spoke with my dealer, just to verify that I was indeed in the queue and didn’t fall victim to the cancellations made past the cutoff. He confirmed I was definitely safe and wasn’t in the group who were too late, but didn’t mention anything about an email from the company.

Since it’s only been 4 mos. since I ordered and they’ve been saying 12+ months all along I’m not too concerned with getting ETA updates.

There were some articles in the last month confirming end July start of production.
Below is the most detailed info from a Fleet Management site, donlen.com... As you can see production for AWDs is scheduled to start 7/25. Anything else, is up for assumptions...

If memory serves those news articles also said last week of July production startup will lead to shipping to dealers in "considerable quantity" in the fall.

Combine that with the FAQ thing on VW.ca I posted about a few days back saying we're "first in line" for 2023s and that should give you a rough idea of when to expect.
