well Polestar 2 just got a bunch of upgrades. Motors, more standard features, more power, more range. RWD now. Polestar 2 brings more power, performance and range

Also the polestar 4 is going to be available this yr.

"We will launch the car (Polestar 4), and I’m not talking about just going to present the design of the car. That will be the start of the launch that includes of course as well the industrial milestones that we will hit along the line in 2023."
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath at the Polestar Q3 2022 results conference call on

This might be the sleeper hit if they don't overprice it. Tesla has put a lot of pressure on everybody now. Also the production Honda Prologue will be shown soon. Deliveries of the Honda will be Q1 2024.

I also got a call from a Nissan dealer about the Ariya. I didn't have a chance to get back to them so I'm just guessing that the Ariya test cars are just about to arrive.

Polestar 2 is cramped. Camry-sized car with a corolla-sized interior. The rear floor jump is massive. Two small adults up front (centre console is unforgivingly large) and two small children in back. Anything larger or more and forget it. I would have bought one if wasn't for lack of interior space. I did put a deposit on a Polestar 3 beavise something tells me that I'll be not getting the ID4 I actually reserved.

Honda Prologue - 2year wait in Canada. Minimum.

Ariya looks good, but I refuse to buy the armpit of japanese cars - Nissan, Mitsubishi

Welp...

I signed on the line for a C40 Recharge in Ajax yesterday - the car was in inventory , so I pick up this week. So I guess I'll be popping into my VW dealer to reclaim my deposit...just can't decide if I should wait to do it IN the new Volvo.

What made me give up?

1) Email saying ETA of Q2 2024, and no communication about deletions or anything
2) Actually has the nice bits I ordered on the VW like the power folding mirrors, 360 cameras, and most importantly: a heat pump
3) Did I mention the heat pump?
4) The car actually exists and I could buy it

Sorry, @Plant Peon ... I know your folks work hard and have been doing their level best 😔

Considering polestar 3 is near $100k and its suggested polestar 4 starts at about $75 - $80k cad... It doesn't affect me. I also saw Tesla increased the model y by $1500 usd in thd states yesterday after the big price drops earlier in the month.

Polestar 3 and 4 are different vehicles. Did Tesla increase here in Canada also?
Yes, they are different vehicles. I'm just saying don't expect the polestar 4 to come cheap. Haven't seen any word on a Tesla Model Y price increase in Canada yet. Seems like they are adjusting every couple weeks based on supply and demand in the states.

They set prices like Uber.

Looks like no, model Y still listed as CAD$69,990 on their website. Supply/demand plus that US treasury change to reclassify the model y as an SUV for rebate purposes.

After discussing it with my other half, we are likely going to pull our ID4 reservation. We are going to think on it for a few days. We might instead keep our res, but only if the car includes a heat pump (even if that means a MY25 or later). We wanted to get a BEV mostly for environmental reasons. After running the numbers more carefully we saw there wasn't a super strong argument for us to get a BEV versus just driving our ICE car less and more conscientiously. So, we'll use our money for something else. Our current car has at least 5 years of more life if not longer, hopefully the market won't be such a mess with super long delivery times and unannounced feature changes when we need to replace it. Given all the cars coming to market in the next year it'll mean we can benefit from competition improving options over the next decade.

I think people cancelling reservations is a mistake. Especially in BC. What other EV are you going to get that's available RIGHT NOW that's not a Tesla? I am keeping my ID4 reservation for the top trim with every feature that I wanted initially. I will not settle for a feature-raped EV. If that means it's a 2024 or 2025 model then so be it. I did reserve a Polestar 3 albeit that's a different tier of quality and price point altogether.

That said, ID4 reservation holders should wait until presented with an actual car on the lot and then decide. Knee jerk reactions usually backfire, at least from experience, unless you need that $1000 back for various other reasons.

I guess. Nowhere near roomy enough for my family though. Plus the range is 320km on a good day on those. My boss has one.

Edit- he has an XC40
What's the big fuss about no heat pump in the id4, yet people are ok with a different vehicle with a lower range with heat pump? I'm in Vancouver, it's not that cold here anyway. All the American id4s don't have the heat pump and many parts of the US are far colder than Vancouver.

Range is about the same, maybe slightly better for the C40 down to aerodynamics. My thinking was, that's still 320 or so km better than imaginary nonexistent range on a car that doesn't exist. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I just wasn't willing to keep waiting until whenever for predictions about supply chain disruptions improving that may never come true. Three years ago, "they" all said covid would be over in a few weeks.

(Also, I'm in a Volvo C30 right now, so for me it just seemed like a message from the universe that it became available.)

80% of 320 is what I'm thinking. Plus then add on winter conditions etc.....

It's a great city EV and gets top marks for build and software and looks imho

By trade, I'm a certified HVAC technician. I'll go heat pump, you do you.

I don't think I'd cancel my reservation if I was certain about needing a BEV in the short term. After more analysis on our needs and wants, we realized we can wait a few years. I don't think I'd even be really bothered if I have to put in another reservation in like...2025 and it's still a 2 year delivery. I do kind of feel bad about squatting on an order I'm just not going to take though, hence giving it up. Might talk with the dealer and see what keeping it will look like if they can guarantee a heat pump. One of our car needs is fairly long road trips (like Vancouver to Los Angeles, along the coastal route), and range is something we don't want to compromise on.

Here in BC, we still have a provincial incentive. I can see that ending just like it did in other provinces. I can also see the feds tweaking the rebates - in their favour. Will EVs be cheaper by 9k in 2-4 years? (BC 4000$ + Fed 5000+)

No idea, but I don't qualify for the BC one anyway. If I was in a situation where I had to buy a BEV ASAP, based solely on what makers are actually delivering (e.g. ID4 w/out heat pump), I'd be buying a model Y, which means no fed rebate. Who even knows if the fed rebate will exist when ID4s w/heat pumps are back to being delivered. I wouldn't be surprised if the fed rebate gets means-scaled and I get disqualified.
