I’d like to think that the Equinox and Blazer are going to properly ramp up but I suspect that will turn into a shitshow as well. If they did they’d be interesting options.

if you just want to reduce your carbon footprint I think the new CX90 PHEV with a 60km range would make a great choice. For many they could drive 80-90% electric only and the 5k rebate applies. Prices haven’t been announced yet. Also the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SEL has a similar range and it is available within weeks. It also gets the 5k rebate and you’ll never worry on longer trips. I think it’s 54k.

The new
Why? I was considering that. Curious to know why you don’t like it
The 2023 Outlander has gotten some great reviews. The interior redesign looks great. And it does DC fast charging. I’m very curious to test drive it. The Mazda cx90 PHEV is also very intriguing. And apparently there’s a cx70 PHEV ready to be revealed.

in Canada because of our awful charging network, I’d say PHEVs are a very smart move. No pain in the ass 45-1hr charging sessions on longer trips.

I was keen on a PHEV, but my partner refused. BEV or nothing for her. I don’t care enough to get into an argument about it, lol.
I think you both should go test drive every option. Why not? I mean the Outlander is 10k less than the ID4. And what’s the resale on an ID4 without a heat pump in 2 yrs when all of the competition has heat pumps and the newer ID4s have heat pumps?

Re the Polestar 4. If that comes in at 75-80k here in Canada it’s DOA now that the Model Y is 70k. The heat is on. OEM’s need to beat the Model Y or languish.

Polestar has already made a big jump forward with the Polestar 2’s tech for 2024.

A parent at my kid's school has one. Was talking to him and he said he loves his bz4x so far of 3 mths ownership.
I know; the recall just makes it too easy to poke fun 😄 I'm sure it's a perfectly good car especially for around town.

I had a deposit down on the Solterra (same car). I wanted the ground clearance + off road ability. I had myself almost talked into buying it if the local dealer hadn't decided to add 7K markup. But for me there were just too many strikes against it to pay that kind of premium (slow DCFC, no tow rating, mediocre range) so I bailed.

We're both more inclined to buy and drive to the ground kind of people. I was already kind of annoyed about going car shopping while we have a perfectly usable car that has had zero mechanical problems and could probably live another 100k km with routine maintenance. We drive less than 5k km per year as it is so another 20 years with our current car is a realistic scenario.

I really wanted to test drive the solterra since I'm partial to subarus, but yeah...delivery times as they are and its range makes it a tough sell for us. Maybe when it hits its 2nd gen.

Welp...

I signed on the line for a C40 Recharge in Ajax yesterday - the car was in inventory , so I pick up this week. So I guess I'll be popping into my VW dealer to reclaim my deposit...just can't decide if I should wait to do it IN the new Volvo.

What made me give up?

1) Email saying ETA of Q2 2024, and no communication about deletions or anything
2) Actually has the nice bits I ordered on the VW like the power folding mirrors, 360 cameras, and most importantly: a heat pump
3) Did I mention the heat pump?
4) The car actually exists and I could buy it

Sorry, @Plant Peon ... I know your folks work hard and have been doing their level best 😔
oh by the way, what colour did you get? Also did it come with the 5k rebate?

Silver Dawn, and it does indeed have the full $5K rebate.

And thank you for you inquiry about the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge TWIN Core AWD, I have attached the Prices & Spec sheets & E-Brochure for the 2023 XC40 Recharge with this email for your reference.

For the Core trims, the 2023 & 2024 allocations are all sold out everywhere already, and we are looking 2025 model year per Volvo Canada. Whereas for the Plus & Ultimate trims, factory order at this point in time, we are looking at ETA (estimated time of arrival to our dealer) around June 2023 pending on allocation availability from Volvo Canada.

Yeah, I got super lucky that they had the C40 in stock. They say it was the last one they were going to get for the year (take with dealer grain of salt.)

Subaru dealer in North (Vancouver) Shore automall has 3 on their lot. All were cancelations. This is as of 230pm Pacific time. Not sure of markups or details as I was driving through and popped in; only that "they are for sale"

New to this forum but wanted to comment on ordering an ID.4 in Canada. I recently took delivery of a 2023 ID.4 Pro AWD in BC. Apparently it was declined by someone else: right colour, had the heat pump (but also had a couple of other options that I didn't really want). I had planned to wait for my order to arrive later this year until the lack of heat pump availability became apparent. Ultimately decided to buy now; waiting came with too much uncertainty about when heat pumps would be available, what might happen to government rebates, a concern that the high value of a trade-in may revert to more normal levels, when are competing models actually going be available in reasonable quantities (and at what price), etc. If I had not decided to buy now I definitely would have left my deposit in place; giving up one's place in the line what with wait times, low inventory of all EV's, etc did not seem like a good strategy. Having options is always helpful. So far I'm liking the ID.4. I've had a Model 3 for a few years (two vehicles serving different roles in our case).
