Your RAV4, if it's a hybrid, will be very easy to resell if that's what you're thinking when you're ID4 comes. Trust me, I have a top trim 2019 Hybrid Limited and dealers are offering me 1k over what I paid for it 3 years ago. The RAV4 Hybrid is a great vehicle, you won't regret it. For the ID4, if I were you, I'd put a (refundable) deposit down regardless of wait times. I'm setting my own expectations as a 12 mth wait for the VW. Anything less is a bonus.

It is hard to estimate, depending on where you live and what is the temperature. Heat pumps are very efficient from -15 to +15c.
If you do frequent short trips in cold weather, I would say its a must, as each time you start your car in very cold temperature, it will require a ton of energy to heat up the battery and cabin and you will see a lot of energy savings during normal winter months (except extreme cold days).

Heat pumps are about 300% more efficient (as advertised but debatable) than resistive heating at above mentioned temperatures.

You can check this thread to get better idea, also try to play around with ABRP. Enter environment and speed values and see what it shows. Many people say its very accurate.

I live in GTA, with heat pump I can go and come back from Niagara falls without charging during winters, without HP its not possible. According to my calculations, at $1500 it may not recover my money for more than 10 Years with current Electricity prices but the convenience of not charging or that extra few km, may be worth the extra cost some times. If electricity prices goes up, it may recover the money even faster.
What do you think Turdeau and his team are doing about the cost of energy? #carbontaxuptheass

A refund of the ID4 deposit shouldn't be an issue. You'd have it in writing from the dealer and could always show that to Visa/Mastercard if shit hits the fan. I wouldn't worry. I've walked away from a car where I did a 2k deposit - and this was prior to the shortages of new cars.

Boys, heat pump or not, gas hit 240.9 a liter here in Vancouver today. News is predicting an 8¢ increase by Saturday. For various factors we are getting raped on gas especially here on the west coast. Looking forward to not fueling up once we get our EV 😉

I have already owe myself way too many coffee.😁
"For the price of your daily coffee" is a very successful sales pitch.
I owe myself coffee from my phone, my PS4 and so forth.
The problem is, I never buy coffee daily at the premium chain. I brew my own coffee at home so my daily coffee budget is less than 10 cents a day. 😛
So your heat pump is paid for! 😂

Car salesmen who insist on looking at per payment amounts is the first piece of advice to be wary of, and that's exactly what's happening here... if I cut spending elsewhere, I could have that money in my pocket too. If I could buy power liftgate without everything else in the statement package I would be super happy to drop that too.

In any case, I am the most likely to flake on my ID4 order. I also have a Q4 base trim with a few minimal options, but also willing and able to abandon everything if interest rates go up I don't know, another 3-4%, or if either spouse loses a job in between now and then. We already use a Leaf for 90% of our annual mileage so the fuel savings if we make the ID4 the primary car will be minimal.

Having conversed with the BC rebate folks, you apply for pre approval and they will use your 2021 notice of assessment all the way until June 30 2023. You have one year from pre approval to use the rebate so a temporarily qualified person or family could theoretically have until June 30 2024 to take delivery using a 2021 NoA. The new BC income tested rebate means our family will qualify this round due to EI last year, but likely not after the new tax returns are done next year.

Not sure if that's documented anywhere online and that is just one email chain's claims

This is why my retired father in law will be the owner of our ID4 😉

Deposit is refundable online until 9th Novemeber and after that you have to go see your dealer if you want deposit back.
I also test drove VW ID 4 2021. However, Rear legroom is very limited in middle seat. Rear vent console is really close to middle seat. Niro range is 404 KM . It says price starts under $48000 . We dont know the actual price. I did not like feel of VW ID4 and their entertainment system.
Remember that the new console for the 🇺🇸-made MY23 is different than the MY21 you drove. That said enjoy your Kia. At least you may not have to wait as long as us for your new EV.

ya I cancelled polestar 2. Polestar 3 is so expensive. I’m going to cancel ioniq 5 from May. Model y will be cancelled soon.

still deciding about niro ev. Only thing solid in my mind is id4. May be this niro. I’m getting tired already with wait times.
To date, the most solid and quietest EV I've ever been in/driven is the Polestar 2. You're right in the Polestar 3 being astronomically expensive

I ordered a week ago and still got the email, wonder if we'll see delivery estimates change from the disclaimer of 4 to 6 months
I think the people thinking 4-6 mth wait is realistic are in for a surprise. For competitive reasons, VW puts that in the disclaimer to attract more buyers. My dealer is at VW corp out east right now. He is saying that people reserving today are at least 18mths for a new ID4. IMHO we need to stop with this "4-6 mth" thing. I would live to be totally wrong though 😕

Depends where in the wait they currently are. I can easily see wait times getting down to 4 months, even 3 months by mid 2023. That is probably one of the reasons the reservations were paused for some versions. VW doesn't want angry customers sitting in a line instead of being able to purchase the vehicle. Despite what some on here might think.
In the 🇺🇸 maybe. Canada is a different animal. We get shafted usually.
