I’m not convinced msrp will go down once it’s produced in the US. Instead I think we’ll see additional equipment like perhaps HUD being added to the base model whit similar pricing to what we see now.
Biden admin has alluded they would expand incentives to EVs. They might revamp current $7,500 tax credit (which currently Tesla & GM have used up) into a new $10,000 tax credit or point of sale rebate to all EVs (including Tesla & GM). If this happens, prices would remain the same. ID4 would become even better value under that incentive. VW would have no incentive to lower price. This would be bad for Canadians, as price would remain high for us.

Not necessarily, the base model sell for $40k USD and $45k CAD. After FX conversion the US model cost $50k CAD and the Canadian one $35.6k USD. So we are paying substantialy less for the same vehicle with added heat pump and headed winshield.

I think VW prices their vehicles based on local market conditions to maximize sales and profitability. Here they went with $5 less than the rebates threshold to qualify making the ID.4 one of the most affordable EV CUV in Canada.

New member here! Just reserved an ID.4 AWD Statement package in Montreal. The dealer told me the delivery will be in ~June 2022 due to the current backlog.

I hope the Quebec and Federal subsidies will still be in place. The $5K federal subsidy is currently scheduled to expire on March 31st 2022 if it's not renewed, and the $8K Quebec subsidy could be "adjusted" after this date...

Hey Cinergi,

I'm also concerned about the rebates expiring or getting tossed in this upcoming election...

I ordered in July, and am expecting to see it in Jan-Feb. I really hope I get it in time before the expiry.

I am curious to see what each party is thinking with regards to EV rebates, if any.

In Jan-Feb you should still be OK. The Federal rebate isn't scheduled to change until March 31st at the earliest according to the government's website (and it might be extended, who knows). Which province are you in? It seems that your waiting time is less than mine (6-7 months); in Quebec it's apparently 10-11 months according to my dealer.

It will indeed be interesting to see what the parties are thinking!

I agree ID4 is a good value in Canada. I would like to see Gov‘t increase rebates & incentives to EVs. More competition is good, and will lead to lower prices. Oil & gas industries are subsidized w/ public money. Let’s shift some of those subsidies to EV!
Absolutely, we need to move subsidies where they will have the most impact. Having said that, if an oil company was to deploy dc charging to their gas stations I think we should provide some support as it will help EV adoption. I like how Petro Canada did it with their east-west deployment. They just recently added a new station on Burrard and 3rd Ave. And I saw a Shell station with a couple of DC charger near the river district on the weekend so it seem some other oil companies are following.

Just wondering, did the dealer mention if your ID4 (June 2022 delivery) would be Made in USA? Or Made in Germany?

wow delivery in June of next year? That's kind of crazy. Ioniq 5, Airya and the EV6 will be available by then. Apparently the ID4 AWD will be available for test drives near the end of November, as will the Ioniq 5 AWD, here in Ontario. Now that I've seen the BMW i4 40 starting at 55k it's also in the mix for me if the leasing rates are good.

Am I missing something, but the leasing rates on the ID4 seem really expensive compared to Tesla.

I'm in Ontario, but who knows when the car will be here really.

I was told late November for the AWD ID4 here in Toronto. Also, Doug Ford needs to call an election before June 2nd 2022. I can't see Ontario providing an EV rebate until after that election, and that's only if the Liberals or NDP win.

Just had an update today from my dealer here on Vancouver Island. I asked about the production timeline and when the VIN number will be issued for my AWD. He told me that the vehicle is already in production and that I should get the VIN number in a few weeks. The target completion date is Sept. 17, 2021.
He also noted that there was a 3-week delay due to the chip shortage earlier and that there is no complete shut-down of the Zwickau plant for summer holidays.

I wouldn’t count my chickens till they hatch… pricing has yet to be announced and unless one has an early reservation for any of those models potentially lengthy delays should be expected. EV are very popular right now with the price of fuel and rebates. We average over $1m weekly in rebate disbursement in BC so there’s a strong demand.

Good to hear. Sounds like you have an informative dealer/sales rep. My rep has had no clue and given me minimal info. In fact, I was the one who educated him about the chip shortage in April, when I placed my AWD order. I still haven't received any word about dates. At my test drive a couple of weeks ago, he informed me that production was delayed 5 weeks, pushing my delivery to Nov.

Please let us know if you hear any more updates. Thanks!

Yah I wish Ontario still had an EV rebate. Quebec and BC's provincial rebates are really generous!

It seems like a race to NOT to market for all of the OEMs. LOL. ID4 AWD, Ioniq 5 AWD, EV6 AWD, Ariya AWD all delayed.... I would even consider a BMW i4 40 RWD as I know somebody who works for BMW and he might be able to get me a good lease. I suppose that's what it comes down to is the lease price pre month. The 5k dollar federal rebate would be great but that high interest rate for VW seems to make that mute when comparing lease costs.
