I believe... they allocated to the dealers that did well w/ E-Golf volumes first... and maybe whoever has better volume #'s as well...preferential treatment ? :)
I was told that too by my sales rep in Vancouver (Clarkdale), but there’s people from Victoria and Nainaimo who are expecting vehicles before us here in vancouver. Vancouver (Clarkdale) claims to have sold the most e-golfs. But I think there is significant interest in the ID4 from various regions. I wonder which dealership took the most orders for ID4?? Vancouver (Clarkdale) would like to claim this title, but I’m not sure they won. North Van, Open Road (Burnaby), Victoria and Nainaimo all seem like worthy contenders…

It may be no more complicated than VAG relying on Zwickau’s 1200/day capacity to supply all non-Chinese MEB cars for the moment, with a limited supply of electronics parts. Right now the US seems to be taking delivery of their first AWD models, so the small numbers we are allotted probably aren’t their biggest priority. That said, all you lucky people expecting a car in the coming weeks suggests that production is only about a month behind the September target my dealer quoted for first arrivals. Now I’ve seen a few initial reviews of the AWD, I’m hopeful mine will be a late Christmas present after all.

Here's the rep's reply: "The first shipment of the ID4 has just arrived at the port today. I just need to wait for my manager to update me if one of the cars is yours. I will give you an update once everything is confirmed."

At least he's confirming first batch of cars have arrived in Canada. Now it's a matter of distribution across the provinces/dealers. It seems like I placed my deposit relatively early compared to many on this forum, so rationally, I'd think I'd be front of the queue. However, I'm not that naive.... as many have mentioned, depends on province and dealer status with VW. Frankly, I wonder when the dealer would have ACTUALLY ordered the car for me from VW even though I might have been one of the early ones to order.

I ordered (RWD, no Statement) and paid my deposit on April 11 from Jimmy P VW. Just asked them if they have details in their system on ETA. Let's see if one dealer is more competent and transparent than the other, or if it's simply a VW thing. I'll update when I get a reply and we can compare!

You might have better luck getting a response in person (if they don't respond). It should be a simple lookup for them in their system.

Jim P seems to have a larger backlog of orders. Placed a deposit at two different dealers (Jim P, Open Road) on the same week (need the vehicle sooner than later, and different dealers have different allocations). My Open Road order is already built and should be delivered in October, while Jim P said mid January 2022 at the earliest if I'm lucky. Cancelled the Jim P reservation. Both reservations were identical in terms of trim/color/RWD etc.

Glad I placed reservations at more than one dealer, and it confirmed my hunch.
When did you order from Jim P / place deposit?

Those guys are a complete joke. I'm surprised Continental Tires hasn't pulled the plug on the sponsorship.

7S POWER
Those guys are performance enthusiasts. They love Audi R8, Lambo Hurracan, Porsche Carerra (they also really liked 2018 VW Golf Alltrack)... I think they would like the AWD iD4 a lot more. They dislike auto traction control systems. In the AWD, it seems like the traction control turns on less.

The iD4 is a family SUV, tuned to be a very safe & comfy ride. It's not designed to drift or accelerate like a Tesla and be driven by performance enthusiasts.

Although, I must admit, it would be nice to have the option in the iD4 to adjust traction control (like in Dual Motor Tesla).

And SOME of their criticism about the infotainment isn't wrong. But they kinda missed the point of the car.

In the US media release about the AWD, they said that when in Sport mode, it will engage both motors, and when in traction mode, it will engage both motors up to 15mph

I should have been more clear. I meant ESC not traction.

This is from the link you posted. Very helpful. Thanks!

"The new vehicle dynamics control system, which debuted last year on the European Mk 8 Golf GTI, is standard on ID.4 models and balances performance and battery efficiency. This system, which works closely with the ESC stability control system, controls the wheel-selective brake interventions of the XDS® electronic transverse differential lock. It uses a digital target model to achieve optimum driving and steering behavior. As soon as the vehicle turns into a corner, the ID.4 behaves in a spontaneous, linear and accurate manner.

The ESC in turn cooperates closely with the control units for the electric motor and the power electronics. In rear-wheel-drive models, this networking is designed to ensure that the rear wheels of the ID.4 find grip in different situations—during acceleration, when cornering, and when the brake regeneration takes place. This type of traction control is speed based and is another innovation from Volkswagen. It takes place automatically every millisecond, and is so fast and non-intrusive that the driver hardly feels any intervention.

In all-wheel-drive models, the vehicle dynamics system controls when the front-axle motor should engage. It also handles the XDS+ brake-based differential to optimize handling when cornering at speed: it gently brakes the wheels on the inside of the bend, thus turning the car slightly into the radius as required."

It's the ESC that seems to turn on less in AWD vs RWD. But I'd like to test both myself!

I'm still on the fence for the AWD, it was my initial choice and then went with the RWD due to higher range, lower cost and unknown availability. Now should they have both when mine arrives I could reconsider.
The way this RWD drive is set up is like no other RWD in the past. It’s a stable and powerful ride. Check out the 2nd half of this very short video that explains it better than I could. If you’re worried about stability on snow/rain/ice, just get a good set of winter tires.

So on an odd note - went in to see my dealer - and I thought my ID was on the bishu Hwy - which is due in port on Sept 26 - and I've been tracking it. So to much to me and my sales rep surprise - the system said that the car landed in port on Sept 20 - and was enroute .... so I went through the entire Halifax port arrivals for Sept 20th - and couldn't find any carriers that VW normally uses - so I'm stumped! My rep told me to remind him to check mid-week - to see if there were any more updates as he wants to know also. LOL - and as far he knows - he did have 4-5 ID's arrive in port the first week of Sept, and those were already enroute via Rail - so anyone else out there who has figured out this mystery? My only thought is that it went on some random carrier and hitched a ride - but then that doesn't totally make sense... cost wise. ??

The SIEM Confucius dropped off some ID4s in Halifax on September 15. There was probably a processing delay.
