In the few weeks I have owned my ID4 I’ve been looking forward to using the free charging from Electrify America. Problem is, every time I’ve tried to sign up for an account I’ve been stymied by this message:

“There was an error submitting your details. Please try again later.”

Not a word about what is wrong, how to fix it or how to proceed, breaking the first law of interface writing: never leave the user without options.

of course I’ve tried many times using different legal passwords. I’ve called EA twice. They were stumped and promised to contact “the engineers” who would call me back with a solution. I never heard a word. Then the Sales Manager at my dealership spent over an hour on the phone with exactly the same result. Not a word. EA gave him a phone number for me to call to get free charging until such time as they could get me signed up. Tell me: would you go on a trip with such an assurance?

Has anyone encountered this problem and what did you do?

I can only offer random suggestions that are probably not very helpful. Hope you get it figured out. Also if you call EA Support again, be sure to get a case number and an email confirmation that a case was opened.

  • Assuming your have multiple cards, have you tried using an alternate credit or debit card during signup? Prepaid debit cards may not work.
  • Absolutely sure the VIN is correct? Speaking from my experience it's really easy to mistype them.
  • Registering with the same email address as Car-Net is using? (not sure if this is an actual requirement)
  • Speaking of Car-Net, is it working ok?
  • Password actually meets their requirements with regard to special characters, numbers, length etc. This is another thing I've overlooked many times.

Haven’t been asked for a VIN# or a credit card. I can’t het beyond the signing-in stage. Yes, Car-Net is actually working. I’ve been very careful with special characters. I haven’t opened a case with VW and no, I didn’t get a case # with EA. I’ll take care of that, and a VW CARE case right away. Thanks.

Wasn't the COMM. NUMBER under the bar code on the Monroney sticker relevant to setting up the free EA charging if the dealer didn't set it up correctly? Sorry, if this is not relevant. I'm pretty sure this was mentioned here.

This is one thing my dealer got right, after several stutter steps. If the dealer is close, you may want to pay them a visit.

My dealer got that one right also but I have had no opportunity to use it in the creating an account as far as I have gotten.

I may be misremembering but I think the free ID.4 charging can only be set up in the EA mobile app. The code is entered under Premium Offers, not the Promo Code option.

I had a preexisting EA account so not sure how I originally created the account. Anyway if you haven’t tried to create an account via the mobile app it might be worth trying.

EDIT: This is the official procedure.

Just follow these simple steps:
  1. Step 1: Download the Electrify America app 2 , create your account and select “Set Up Public Charging.”
  2. Step 2: Select “Choose Membership Plan” then “Premium Offers.” ...
  3. Step 3: Input your 6-digit enrollment code, which you will receive from your ID.

Thanks! Step 3 is the COMM Number on the Monroney sticker. You can generate a free sticker online that includes the code if you no longer have it.

Here's an earlier post that describes what one poster did:

Thanks Dave. I am using the EA app. Unfortunately, it’s step 1, “create your account,” that gets stopped. EA won’t accept my email address, my name, my phone number, my password or all of the above. I’ve spoken with EA and have a password, but they are waiting to hear from “the engineers” and have been waiting for three weeks.

SOLVED IT.
The problem was that I already had the account, though the app or the site had never acknowledged it. I had tried to reset my password a few times, of course, but the text from EA never showed up on my iPhone, meaning I wasn’t registered. However, I found out two things accidentally. 1) EA was sending the text, but taking more than five minutes! At that point, of course, I had given up. 2)It was going directly to my junk folder. So, I was signed up all the time and didn’t know it.
Now That EA tells me I’m signed up correctly, I’ll have to see if I can actually charge.

@Twylasdad I don't have a VW, but I just created an account here to thank you for posting your problem and of course your solution! I think no one in this thread really understood what your problem was initially. I've been having this exact same problem for several months now when setting up my EA account on the app and kept getting the "There was an error submitting your details. Please try again later." message. I've also had many discussions with EA customer service to no avail! A new EA station just opened up very close to our house and I finally had enough and decided to google and see if anyone else has this issue and came across this post! Of course I also had an account and was able to easily revive it by going through forgot my password! I'm guessing that the very first time I tried opening an account with the app it did create it but never mentioned it to me and that's how I ended up here!!! Anyways, thank you kind stranger :)

What has just worked for me was deleting the vehicle profile initially created. The one giving the license expired warning signal. Then reloading a new profile. Hope that by now you already have it working. Two dealers, VW, and Carnet personnel couldn't fix it. In fact they claimed not to know anything about this issue. After researching this issue I found out that it's been going on since 2021 in the case of SW release 3.1. It almost seems like a conspiracy to make VW look bad. Interestingly enough, I was on the phone with a Carnet rep and mentioned my altered state of paranoia. A few seconds later, the issue was fixed. ANYWAY, I wish I could contact someone high enough to make an impact at VW to let them know exactly what went down.
