I've had quite the time trying to get Car-net setup on my ID4 and wanted to see what my next options are.

When I purchased the car, the dealer enrolled me in Car-net. I went through the setup link that was emailed to me, accepted the terms, and it seemed like I was enrolled. Once I was home, I went in the app and since the car wasn't in my "garage", I tried adding it by the VIN and received the message "This vehicle is not equipped with VW Car-Net Connected Services." Trying to open the Car-net activation page in the infotainment settings results in an error saying it can't connect. Additionally, I had an eSIM connection error on the infotainment.

I called Car-net services and explained this to them. The first thing they had me check was for a green light on the headliner by the SOS button, of which there was none. No green light prompted Car-net to immediately say I needed to take the car into the dealer for service. After a day in service, the dealer said that everything was working, but something was done incorrectly during the pre delivery inspection. They claimed to have gone through these steps again and now that everything was "turned on" correctly, it should be able to be connected. However, at this point, there was still no green light by the SOS button. Dealer insists it is all working properly though. They checked once more that the enrollment process was initiated. Still get the same errors when trying to add the car.

Yet another call to Car-net resulted in them opening a support ticket to look into why I can't add the car, but I am not hopeful considering the car doesn't seem to have a connection.

Am I at a dead end?

Sounds all to Frustrating, my dealer walked me through the set-up while I was there to make sure it worked properly, I'm surprised they didn't do that with you.

If it's any consolation, while you're working to figure everything out and get it up and running, Car net is awful and virtually useless with incredibly limited functionality with the ID.4. The only thing you can do with it is see battery %, set it to the % you want the car to l charge to, and turn on climate control.

There's no ability to remotely lock/unlock the car, you can't even see whether it's locked/unlocked, there's no GPS functionality, and by that I mean you can't see where it is like other car apps, you can't auto-disable (or slow down) in case of theft, there's no vehicle statis or ability to monitor vehicle "health," the functionalities are very limited.

BUT, YOU CAN buy all of the premium car add-ons such as internet connectivity, "safety packages," and all the other "premium" features that expire in 3 years. I'm sooooo glad that VW did such a fantastic job making sure we could purchase packages and make them money (or renew current ones when trials expire), rather than making a useful and functioning app.

I hear you on the limited functionality. I think setting climate control is already a feature I would like to have, especially with it getting colder.

My biggest reason in getting this all worked out is so I can ensure that I have the connection to get OTA updates when the (finally) come around.

Setting climate control, or starting it remotely has not worked at all for me. The app will attempt to save the changes and will ultimately fail. The only time it seemed to worked for me was when I was sitting in the car and the car was on, which needless to say, is utterly useless. I have a feeling that this is due to the car going to "sleep" and not having the wifi connectivity on to allow for the changes to be saved and actioned. Hopefully a future software update will fix this but I'm not holding my breath.

Have you pressed the "SOS" button to see if you are connected. Even though my Car Net services were activated on first try I still pressed the button. I guess I am fortunate as Car Net, while of little use and limited functionality, is working fine, so far. Coming from a GM vehicle with OnStar, Car Net is like buying a suit but no pants or jacket.

I tried pressing SOS when I first had setup issues, and got an error that it couldn't complete the call.

Wait, so you can consistently start and stop climate control remotely?

My car arrived at the dealer last night, was planning to take delivery right about now. Got a call a little while ago that they can't get the car out of "transport mode" -- this seems to be an issue with the current batch, and is not isolated to OP. They are working with VW on a fix. No ETA yet.

Totally makes sense, the good news is, I've found that the heat kicks in very quickly once you turn the car on.

Hopefully you they can get you sorted out soon.

The answer sounded more like the dealer’s software needed to be upgraded to connect to the car and they had a VIN specific download they needed or something like that. It is not really a problem with your car, even though it presents like it.

We had a similar issue when we went to pick up our Pro S yesterday. Dealer couldn't get the SOS to connect and said we would have to wait to get the car. Since it turned out to be a wider spread issue with VW and Car-Net, the told us to pick up the car today and we will have to bring in back in once the service department and VW can figure out what's wrong. So we have our car, but Car-net and SOS don't work.

Interesting. If my climate is off, I can’t even get it to turn on remotely. I can slide the slider around but it’s of no use if the climate isn’t on.
Do you mean that the climate control is literally turned off? Because it won't turn on via software without turning it on via the screen in the car. That includes using the voice controls. It will just say that it can't turn it on. Have to use the "power button" in the upper left of the climate control screen to turn it on so that the voice control can make changes, and so that Car-Net can control it.
