Does anyone's screen go black when using carplay? It is still plays music but every time a text comes in the screen goes black for a few seconds. Is there a way to reset the infotainment carplay connection? Or anything else to reboot?

Apple CarPlay can be problematic on many vehicles as seldom updated vehicle code sometimes conflicts with newer/constant iPhone iOS. Same issue on my prior TT. Also afflicted my wife's Benz GLA.

Yes, you can press and hold the power button on the Infotainment system for ~20 seconds to reset it. Similar to rebooting a misbehaving iMac in this regard.

note: I speak only Apple but Android can have similar issues.

Thanks for the help. It seems like just rebooting the infotainment is the only option. It's weird as it only does it on my wife's phone I just realized. It works fine on mine.

I've had several odd issues with CarPlay, Music app would load but not display library, same with Podcast. Maps would open but then close. I was on iOS 14.5.1 in these cases. For these issue rebooting the Infotainment did NOT work, but rebooting my phone did.

Hello we are having the same problem, the screen turns black and pushing the power button will not rest the screen. VW has replaced the screen twice and now they are saying they are going to build another screen for our car. Now we have an ICE car
that we have to pay $3 a gallon fuel prices. 😡

Sorry to hear. Ours only goes black on my wife's phone when text messages come in. We'll try restarting the phone as I'm not sure its a problem with the infotainment screen--we'll see.

Haven't had a general CarPlay problem, but the Plugshare app sometimes doesn't load the map and or some of the other top menu items take a long time to load within the app.

I actually just had the exact same issue this morning and found that rebooting my iPhone was the only solution.

I hope all goes well! We are frustrated that we are paying for a vehicle that keeps having this problem. I'm going to ask VW if they can put us in a different ID4? I hope your problem gets fixed, if not get a case number from VW.

The dealer would certainly have a vested interest in fixing this, since Lemon Laws start to kick in after the fourth attempt (or 30 days combined) for the same issue, at least in California. (I am not a lawyer, check your own state laws)

Sorry to hear about this... probably would be classified in the Early Adopter Tax catagory.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not. On 2 occasions, the screen never turns on when first starting the car. Turning the car off and back on doesn't seem to help. Haven't tried the tip about holding down the ignition button down for 20 sec yet. After the car sits for some period of time (say 2 hours), everything works fine. Probably not carplay since the screen never booted up at all? Glitchy screen/power supply? Any thoughts?

Hello Martin, our ID4 has been doing this for a few months; last Sunday, the speedometer went blank too. The only thing I could see was the PRNDB letters. I sent pictures to my VW representative, and she said to take it to our local VW dealership. The only problem is they have replaced the head unit three times. Still no fix! We are in the process of a buyback. If it continues to happen, take pictures ( While stopped) and get a case number from VW.
