I’ll start by saying that this all used to work perfectly when the Verizon hot spot was active. Since I switched it off, I’ve had a series of issues that I’ve most worked out, except for Apple Music.

Apple Music Radio flat out refuses to work via CarPlay. I can stream music from my device. If I disconnect my phone (iPhone XR) from CarPlay (via turning off WiFi), Apple Music works great on the phone. Connected to CarPlay, no Apple Music Radio. No difference wired or wireless.

I do sometimes have an issue where the car’s radio battles with CarPlay for audio. It can take up to 15 minutes to sort out.

Again, this all used to work perfectly when the hot spot was active. I have tried deleting the phone from the car , the car from the phone, rebooting both the center stack and the phone ( the last action cleared up my inability to connect wirelessly).

Any thoughts?

Also having the same issue Apple Music won’t work via CarPlay. But other players do.

I just went through a few days of CarPlay not willing to connect at all - then, suddenly, it started working again. That downtime allowed me to really appreciate Siri! I don't think I had a single success in speech recognition with the ID4 system.

Have any of you tried making your iPhone your cars Hotspot? I have had no issues with CarPlay and the verizon trial ended two months ago. I changed the wifi connection to my house and my iPhone. Hope that helps.

Today, when I arrived home, I turned on WiFi Scanning on the car, the car joined my home network, and Apple Music Radio instantly started working. I’m not sure what this is telling me.

This sounds like your phone is still trying to use the car's hotspot to get out to the internet. You need to tell the phone to "forget" the car's WiFi network (Settings -> WiFi, tap the "i" next to the network name, then tap "Forget this network"), then reconnect to CarPlay.

It is what it sounds like. I’ve done the forget the network once, I’ll do it again and see how that works.

I’ll also try my wife’s phone to see if that narrows things down any.

Thank you, that’s resolved the problem. Apple Music Radio working perfectly once again, my commute is much improved.

Maybe some German accent or try true English accent....American English is still not recognized well.....
It will get better after update and once they enable more commands for ID4.

On the short test drive I’ve had with the ID.4, I noticed a clipping and cutting out. Sounded terrible. I’ll be sure to check WiFi settings and make sure that’s not the culprit. Thanks for the input.

I’ve had to redo the CarPlay setup a couple of times now on my iPhone XR. It works fine for a few days, then it loses its mind and no music for you. Having my wife’s phone in the car at the same time really makes it crazy. Her phone seems to work fine, unless my phone is in the car.

I‘m looking forward to the upcoming Apple event, it may be time to swap out phones. Or maybe iOS 15 will make it better. Or worse. It’s definitely moved into sage burning / wave rubber chicken around territory.

so after you "forget" the car's network, do you just use the bluetooth connection, or do I try reconnecting with my car's wifi? I have a very similar issue BTW

I should have followed up sooner.

I did another round of forget: starting with the car, tell it to forget the phone. Then on the phone, forget the car in Bluetooth and in WiFi settings.

After that, I used the car to add the device, which starts with Bluetooth and then adds a WiFi connection to the phone. It’s been rock solid since the redo.

I have an issue with Apple CarPlay when I switch from radio to music on the iPhone. Otherwise the music plays just fine, but when I use the radio function of the car first, I keep getting the radio sound and the iPhone uses its own speakers instead of CarPlay. When I come back the next day, it's fixed. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Is there a way to actually stop the radio, rather than muting it?
