Charging at the Dealer

For those of us who don't want to install L2 charging at home, does the VW dealer let you charge there? My VW dealer is a block away, and the closest EA is like a 15 minute drive.

My dealer promised it and allows it on a 24kW Chargepoint DCFC, but they use the charger and ICE it a lot. They ICE their Chargepoint L2 EVSE even more.

The dealer closest to me has an L2 charger, but it is inside the shop! What were they thinking?

You have to check with your dealer. Different dealers have different policies.
My salesman has kept me in the loop on their uprated EVSE installation over the past several months, now complete. I never have asked him if I could use same (not as convenient for me as just doing so at home), but I presume he wouldn't have been so informative unless it was ok to use it? I'll stop by one day just for the heck of it.
Doesn't hurt to ask and of course most courteous to first inquire.

On a recent road trip I found significant neighborhoods in other cities without public charging. Interestingly, there were an abundance of dealerships (Cadillac, Ford, Volvo, Nissan) with L2 charging. Looking at these through PlugShare, I discovered that most were free and open to the public -- for the moment.

I asked my dealer and the answer was "no". They are busy using it for vehicles. He offered the chargepoint charger next door at the Honda dealership which, I think, requires payment.
Our dealer has two - one back in the shop, and one up front. I have no idea whether one could use it for general charging when not using the dealership. They might normally keep their demo parked there for all I know.
