Chicago Area ID.4 Thread

Thought I'd start a thread for Chicago-area ID.4 reservation holders! Hopefully this is the right forum to do that since we don't have any regional subforums yet.

For other first edition reservation holders, what stage are other Chicago-area folks at in the owners portal? Unfortunately, I'm still stuck at 3/7 (order locked). I made my reservation on the first available day around 2 PM. I've checked far too often over the past two days, and it hasn't moved. My reservation is at Jennings VW in Glenview.

I'm also at step 3 (order locked) but I didn't order until 2nd wave for 1st Edition. Prior to that I had planned and had a reservation on an AWD ProS. My preference is for an April delivery just to get largely out of this winter, but I could deal with sometime in May as well.
Hello Dan and corfam, My status moved to step 4 yesterday. I am a first day reserver, around noon-30, of a First Edition. With that I visited my "preferred dealer" today. See the story of that encounter here... The ID.4 is on a dealership tour. Now I am pressed into shopping a new dealer as my FE sails across the Atlantic.

VWoA does have serious communication issues with their dealerships. I believe the tour you are talking about was the one back in the fall. I was planning on visiting two different local dealerships that were going to have one of the ID.4 tour cars on consecutive days. Alas, we know they were ultimately cancelled last minute "due to IL COVID restrictions". Neither of these dealers were my primary dealer and I had asked my EV specialist at "my" dealer about the visits and what happened. My dealership as many other regional dealerships were apparently unaware that there was going to be an ID.4 coming to town. After debacle, at the next Central Region conference call (dealers + VWoA), my dealer owner raised the question. I was told the response back to all central region dealers was that "there was a miscommunication between VW Marketing and the rest of the network. It was not a real tour for this area. The cars were never suppose to be in Chicago". Who knows if that's the true story either, but whatever...it is good to know your car is on the way. It gives me hope that the central region won't be much behind ZEV states.

@jonic Do you know when your dealer will have a demo car, given yours will arrive sooner than later? My dealer originally projected late Feb or early March, but that got corrected. They have no known delivery date for their demos...other than it could be as late as May.

I exchanged emails with my dealer yesterday. They said they'd be getting a demo "in about 4 weeks", so sometime near the end of March. They also said my ETA production completion date is today, 2/26! That would put expected delivery to the dealership sometime in April. I was a bit surprised to hear that, as it seems like a lot of the first edition models have arrived in US ports already. We'll see if my reservation tracker on the VW website updates today...

Ordered in second wave, at the order locked step... haven't heard from my dealer at all though 😕

The guy was saying late March for a Demo. Visited another dealer today in Bensenville and he was hopeful for a demo in two to three weeks. I said that I hoped his demo was on the truck right next to my FE. He chuckled and said that it is good to have dreams. (that last part might be me paraphrasing what he said) But he did show me a copy of broad delivery schedules that showed demos arriving mid March. That kind of supports what he is saying but I only had a moment to scan the document. (Not saying it was shenanigans, but car dealers do have a long history of playing fast and loose with the facts.)

Looks like a Naperville showing for you Chicagoland fans. What's interesting is that they mention test drives...

Reservation blocks are 15 minutes. Must have valid driver's license, be 18 years or older and proof of insurance with test drive.

That's cool Erick. I don't where you find half of your stuff. Great info. I'd like to go, but wish it was on a different day. I'll see if I can rearrange some things. :)

I do "Past 24 hours" Google searches for "Volkswagen ID.4" most days. This one came up in the image results.

Booked a time to check it out...will make the decision between ID4 and model y at that point
My order status changed to step #4 today as others have noted in the "Your ID.4 is almost home" thread. So everyone might want to re-check their status. I hadn't received any email. Looks like April delivery is likely.
Hi Guys! I put in an order for a PRO S but changed it to an FE during the second round. Still in ORDER LOCKED status, so I'm guessing I'm on a later boat. I've had a ton of VWs in the past, currently a '19 GTI. However, I don't have a lot of experience with dealers in the Chicago area though as I only recently moved here. I put my reservation in with Larry Roesch in Bensonville, mainly because it seemed that had the least amount of online hate. However, I haven't heard a peep from them yet, which makes me wonder about their level of service considering I gave them a $500 deposit on a $44,000 car. A call or an email would at least be nice. Since my car hasn't shipped yet I'm still able to switch the destination. Does anyone have opinions on Roesch or is anyone really happy with their dealer?
I'm still stuck on step 3/7 :( Really hoping that changes sometime today or tomorrow so I can keep pace with the rest of you! I feel like my car keeps missing the boat, so to speak. I do wonder if changing my dealer a few weeks after the initial reservation actually moved me down the priority list.

I moved to step 4/7 today, leaving the factory! Anyone else in the Chicago area have any updates on their timeline for delivery?

Congrats!

A small update, yes. I was told yesterday by my dealer that my car is currently scheduled to arrive at the port on 4/2, which would put delivery 1-2 weeks later. I wasn't told which port or ship, but I assume I can figure that out. No VIN info available at this time.
Stopped into my dealer today to try and wrangle my VIN and 10 minutes later I am giving their ID.4 its maiden Demo voyage! Now what to do about this big dopey grin on my face....
