I noticed that many people were getting the Homelink mirror, but I went in a different direction.

I use Apple Homekit for some automations in my house. When I replaced my garage door opener a few years ago, I got one that was WiFi enabled (Liftmaster). I created an automation to open the garage door when I arrive. You have to acknowledge the automation since it's providing access to your home, but it shows up in your CarPlay screen, as well as on your other devices.

On the garage door side, you need an myQ bridge, but I use a RasPi running Homebridge instead. To use the Home app in iOS, you need an AppleTV (what I use) or a HomePod as the hub.

I figured that I would share it, since it didn't take a lot of effort. I will take pictures of how it looks in CarPlay on my next drive.

I use an app and a device called Tailwind to do much the same. It’s also Alexa and Google compatible, though sadly not yet Apple HomeKit. I suspect that is due to the licensing fees Apple requires but whatever.
The nice part about it is with the vehicle sensor is that it auto opens to door based on proximity. So I rarely need the controller to open. They do recommend you close it manually but it will auto close as well.
Best part is it works with almost every garage door opener ever made.

I remember when I got mt MyQ bridge years ago they wanted a monthly subscription to integrate to IFTTT. Do they still charge or did they see the light?

My only problem with a lot of the MyQ product if you have an older opener is they take a 'remote' slot, and Liftmaster's like mine can only support 3. I think the new ones get around that by being on WiFi etc. But I couldn't use the cheaper one that worked with my older lift when I had 2 cars, as 2 cars + outside keypad took up all the space my opener could use.

I also Have the Tailwind. They say that they will add Homekit compatibility, but I don't miss it because it is still controllable with Siri.

Yeah, though it uses Siri Shortcuts. Still gets it done though. :)

I appreciate the ability to tell Alexa to open or close the garage door and I also have it in a Alexa routine that I activate at night and including shutting off a bunch of lights, the TV, locking doors, etc. it also makes sure the garage door is closed. :)

Here is what the CarPlay screen looks like when you are nearby your home, if you are more than 1/4 mile from your home, the garage button does not show.

"Hey Siri, open the pod bay doors"

I have a myQ bridge that opens my garage doors and liftmaster gate and it does not require any subscription. Iam looking at a wifi enabled dead bolt for the front
I have the same setup but would like to set it up to with apple home kit to control with siri in the ID4. Is there anything else i need at home to make this work?

Caveat I don't have any myQ devices so I don't know how they function.

However, you probably need to get Homebridge (Homebridge - https://homebridge.io/) installed and then the homebridge-myq plugin (myQ Liftmaster and Chamberlain Plugin for Homebridge - https://github.com/nfarina/homebridge). For best results you will likely want some type of device that can sit in your house that is always on to act as the hub. Any Apple TV 4th generation or later or HomePod can act as a hub.

I use HomeBridge with the myQ plugin and it works great. In the myQ app I created a separate user just for the HomeBridge plugin to access. This way in the myQ logs I can see if HomeBridge was the device requesting the door to open or close.

Just installed the Refoss WiFi garage door opener.
Works perfectly with Google assistant, so opening and closing in the car via the voice control on the steering wheel works.
And for security, after a voice command, the code that is spoken is requested.

I use HomeAssistant with the myQ garage door opener. I don’t have to pay for the hardware to make it HomeKit compatible that way. This also made it work with Alexa, not that that matters for CarPlay support.

I have the Meross garage door opener remote thing. It adds HomeKit integration, including popping up a button icon on the center screen when I’m near home to open or close. It’s been very reliable.
I have Meross and it works from my iPhone at home but can’t get it to integrate with CarPlay or work via car Siri. Any suggestions?
