This is driving me nuts! I set the cruise on the speed I'm going and it locks in at 73 when I wanted 75, or maybe 73 when I wanted 70. While attempting to up or down it by 1 MPH, I keep getting 5 MPH which isn't what I wanted. Occasionally I get lucky and it does 1 MPH like I wanted, but often it goes up by 5 and then trying to bring it down 1 or 2 it goes down by 5

I know the manual says an easy tap for 1 and a firmer tap for 5, but they way mine is working I never know what's about to happen, I wish the 5 MPH option wasn't there at all. I'd very seldom use it as I usually only make small changes of a mile or 2 or 3

I must be doing something wrong?? Maybe I'm just ham fisted, but this + 1 or 5 isn't a useful feature in my book. Hopefully there's an easy answer for what I'm doing wrong

Same here... not a fan of those controls, should be easier.
So is a 'tap' a light touch or is a touch a light tap?
How about a car setting to define what happens when you 'move' that control... incr/decr by 5 or incr/decr by 1.
Probably a good idea but implemented poorly.

Great feature, tap +1, press +5mph. Great for quickly going up and down and easily adaptable when you need to fine tune.

That’s another glitch in some of the vehicles. Mine has been doing the same from the beginning. Deactivating and reactivating the top right button sometimes makes it work correctly for me. Very frustrating on a long journey. And I found out yesterday that rain can block the sensors causing you to have to manually brake before getting too close to the car in front of you on the highway when using ACC.

I totally had this problem as well. Granted, this was an ID.4 I borrowed for 2 days so I’m sure I would’ve eventually got the knack for it. BUT to me if after 2 full days I still couldn’t predict when I’d get the +1 or +5, I think that’s a good sign the controls need more contrast between touch types.

So . . . . you guys are saying that it doesn't need to 'click' at all to get 1 mph? Just place your finger on it (capacitive touch?) and that will consistently get me 1 mph? I'll give that a try tomorrow ;)

BTW, I LOVE the Driver Assist feature, especially at night. Unlike my Volt, this keeps me centered in the lane better than I can do myself and it for sure gives an old pair of eyes a rest, especially at night. It's gotta be done using a camera, because it recognizes the difference between dashed lines and a solid line on the display - I love watching it when I go past an exit in the right lane and the solid line on the right turns into a dashed line for a couple hundred feet and the camera picks up on that immediately and then returns to a solid line when past the exit - Way cool!!!

It's all about how firmly you press the capacitive button. Perhaps not the most intuitive, but from the owner's manual:

You can adjust the stored speed while the CCS is regulating the speed:
+ 1 mph (1 km/h): Press the [+] button gently.
- 1 mph (1 km/h): Press the [-] button gently.
+ 5 mph (10 km/h): Press the [+] button firmly or swipe it from the bottom to the top. Pressing for the first time changes to the next-largest tens digit (km/h) or fives digit (mph).
- 5 mph (10 km/h): Press the [-] button firmly or swipe it from the top to the bottom. Pressing for the first time changes to the next-smallest tens digit (km/h) or fives digit (mph).

The difference between a "gentle" touch and a firm touch is pretty subtle. I have found that my right index finger has a little more fine motor control than the left (I am right-handed). So when I want to go up or down 1 mph, I reach over with my right hand to give it the light touch. That's my cumbersome workaround. The left index finger works well for 5 mph adjustments.

Your digits may vary.

Yeah, it's not a capacitive touch - I tried it again this morning and you've gotta click it to get 1 mph . . . . or 5, whatever it decides to give you :p

I too had this issue a bit and then finally figured out how to "tune" my finger!!! To get a 1 mph change, it's a really quick tap, then lifting the finger completely off of the button very quickly. To get the 5 mph change, I push down fairly hard on the button and then keep it there for a a second or so before lifting back up. So in other words, it's function of how much pressure you're putting on the button and how quickly you lift it off. It did take me a while to get it right every time.

It saddens me to see that VW could have had an absolute out of the park home run with the id.4 as most of the car and what it does are amazing. But they then did some really dumb things like the awful steering wheel buttons, extreme loudness of the pedestrian warning system, lack of lighting on the temperature and volume controls, lack of a permanent vent speed control somewhere on the main screen and lack of the proper rear window up/down buttons on the driver's door. And don't get me started on why we need two separate buttons to press to get to the same exact climate control screen! Couldn't the real estate used by the Clima button been used for something else if we already get to that screen by tapping the temperature readout on the bottom left of the infotainment screen?? Sorry folks, that was me on my soapbox as I sit here contemplating how much time I can accept theses faults without going bonkers. Apologies!

I'm thinking it's how long you hold the 'click' - I've mastered getting a plus or minus 5, no problem - Just hold it down for a full second or so. Still working on the fractional second necessary to get plus or minus 1, but I'm (slowly) getting better

I swipe for +/-5 and tap for +/-1. Didn’t actually know you could press hard for +/-5 too…

This is a disaster and dangerous. I just got a 2023 ID4, ive tried everything and can not predict if it will adjust speed by 1 or 10 km with each tap. I plan to bring the vehicle in for service to have this fixed, as it's dangerous

No matter how I tap or touch the speed goes up by 5 mph or down by 5 mph. So I have developed a system of when it gets to the speed I want after tapping the up or down, I just tap the set. I have found this characteristic and several others of the ID4 annoying. But then I find my wife annoying sometime too!

I usually wait about 5 seconds(a long pause) and then try again. Usually works but it can be very frustrating.
