I've been very eager to get an id.4. However the delay me now questioning the "when". outside of the software quirks which should be resolved via OTA. Do you think there will be any tweaks, or changes made in the 2022 that would be worth waiting for?

if you were buying today, would you go ahead and buy now or wait 6 months for a 2022?

The only thing I have seen announced is that they will offer vehicle-to-grid ability with the new 22kw bi-directional charger. That is not enough for me to wait for a 2022, but if my AWD is delayed until Oct. as VW currently says, a years worth of depreciation in only 2 months may be enough reason for me to wait. I will have to see what other changes they announce.

In my case the value of my trade in would have dropped like a rock with another year. I also got in ahead of the curve with the gas price increases that I expect to occur. In September I plan to see just how far EA .

I wouldn't, but then again we had two kids crammed into a Chevy Sonic and driving the around in that clown car was KILLING ME. So it had less to do with the timing of the car and more to do with the timing of my hating my old car.

At this point, I'd wait if I had a suitable car. There are just too many downsides that can't be fixed OTA - or likely won't be fixed OTA. I'm thinking of the unlighted buttons below the screen, poor option choices, what more and more appears to be a needed upgrade to the infotainment processor power, the ridiculous piano black surfaces, poor interior color choices (I'm looking at you, brown on the dashboard and whatever color the fabric seats are supposed to be). I have a feeling the price will come down, I've already seen a report of someone buying a FE off the lot at a discount. If you like audio, maybe there's an upgraded stereo option coming? There's more of course.

Potential downsides: These could well be a two-year fix, and won't be fixed this model year. There might not be a US improvement until stateside production comes on line. There could well be a de-contenting push, particularly to get the price down...this would be most noticeable with the FE. If you really, really like the FE version - it's what I've got and it's a great set of options - then maybe just get one. Finally, I think VW probably way over-engineered and put more goodies in than is profitable in this first year both to sell them and to ensure they are as rock-solid as possible. I worry about engineering and accounting getting involved in future models.

In short, the car is a hoot to drive, but it's not quite there if you want a seamless experience.

I can't imagine there will be many differences - nearly all of the issues on the '21 models can be fixed with software.

Is the 22kW bi-directional charger destined for the US? That sounds like a 3-phase charger for Europe. US J1772 maxes out at 19.2kW (80A)

Below invoice!! :D

TBH I'd be skeptical if any of those issues except for interior color choices were changed for 2022. I'm hopeful that infotainment issue can be fixed over OTA but not holding my breath.

VW is pausing U.S. production "due to chip shortage" for two weeks beginning June 7th. I wouldn't be surprised if they start converting a line to ID.4 production while they are shut down:

However, there is no guarantee that the MY22 will not have even more features removed for the U.S. version than the current ID.4.

I agree with Bubbajet and will add I predict with near certainty the wheel and haptic controls will be changed next year. I’m in the process of selling my first edition and of I come back to VW it won’t be until next model year.

You think they'll change the wheel buttons with real buttons? I actually rather like the wheel buttons.

Yeah, and a number of people reviewing the Golf VIII think so, as well.

This isn't specific to the ID.4 but one of things VW does that drives me insane is they keep moving the buttons on the wheel around--my 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and now 2021 have a different layout from each other. It's insane and I can't think of any other manufacturer that changes that as frequently as VW.

Oh, and while I'm not sure whether it's intentional or a software bug, it's making me irrationally angry that the up button is backwards and the down button is forward when selecting tracks/changing stations.

All of this. All. Of. This.

I think the haptic controls on the steering wheel are a hazard, actually. I am continually engaging a system that I don't want to, or failing to engage anything at all, because I can't tell where the buttons are by feel since they're all smooth. Because it's one giant button, pressing near the edge of the button shape you're trying to tell by feel can lead to an incorrect system being engaged/altered.

Sometimes when I press on what feels like the bottom half of the "RES" button (I'm using feel to tell where it is) to let the car accelerate to the speed I want, I instead engage Travel Assist at the current speed. When I let off the accelerator a few MPH further along, the car abruptly slows to get to the speed I unintentionally set. This is NOT COOL in traffic. The alternative is to press on the top half of the RES button...which leads me to inadvertently turn the entire cruise control system off since that's the button on top. Also not cool in traffic.

A fun alternative is trying to adjust speed using the up/down buttons, but if you inadvertently tap the center button (follow distance) you'll adjust that instead. Since the symbology on the display is small and disappears after a few seconds, it takes a while to figure out why you haven't accelerated yet, and why am I following that car ahead so far away?

Oh I just think of that like you have a vertical list of stations/tracks, so then progressing "next" is going "down" the list. Once I mapped it that way in my brain it was no issue at all.

However, I definitely agree it just would've made more sense overall for the volume buttons to be up and down, with the arrow buttons being left/right.

Wow I probably shouldn't have done a search. I just found a dealer in Ohio that is listing $7500 under MSRP on Autotrader? This is nonsensical. My local dealer has it listed at 2500 over.

Edit: nevermind the 7500 car must be an error. I checked the dealer website it's not listed that that price.
