It's the VW way. Why I left the brand for different pastures the last time (Inifinti, then a Mazda, then an Audi before coming back).

Beginning to? VW is its own worst disaster.

Ford just announced sales of over 25,000 MME's in August alone
Not true. The Electrik article states that is how many Ford sold in 2022 as of August.

Here’s a breakdown of Ford’s EV sales to date for 2022.
  • Ford F-150 lighting – 6,842
  • Mustang Mach-e – 25, 765
  • E-Transit – 3,938

Electric Viking shared July data today indicating VW delivered 19,000 ID.4s worldwide, ranking it the #8 highest produced model and only one on the list from a legacy manufacturer. I don't see a data source so take it with a grain of salt, but something to keep an eye on as they emerge from a terrible 2022 start and ramp up production.

Dates vs Inventory using car guru nationwide search:

8.21 613
8.23 618
8.24 639
8.25 666
8.26 684
8.27 686
8.29 641
8.31 658
9.3 707
Judging from this it seems like inventory is increasing slightly because of the tax credit going away but I believe there are still many willing buyers ready to scope them up.

There's also the Osborne Effect* at play: Many buyer's know the 23s are at hand, so there may be more putting the purchase on pause awaiting the US-built version, or an incentive to buy a 22.

* thanks LHN!

*Effect. Osborne Effect is definitely a factor here. For those who don't know:

"The Osborne Effect is a reduction in sales of current products after the announcement of a future product. The name of the effect comes from a computer company called Osborne Computer Corporation."

My original Osborne 1, along with an external monitor (only around 200 of those were made) and a complete archive of the "Portable Companion" is upstairs in my attic. :)

The real suckers drive ICE. $100 goes into my tank every 300+ miles. 🙀
At most you will save $1400 / year on gas out of which you have to pay extra ev registration fee plus extra ev car insurance. In the end its usually a wash. And with a possible 25k battery replacement at 10 yrs, the risk is too much which is why the 7.5k rebate was an absolute requirement for evs to make economic sense.

In 2021, I paid $2300 for gas for my cars, so that is a greater savings than what you have stated. Plus, not all states have extra EV registration fees (Maine doesn't) and I am not paying more for car insurance. Since I got my Leaf in March, my electric bill has gone down. So for me, it is more than "a wash."

Not sure where you got the $25K to replace batteries in 10 years. That's not what I have been reading.

12,000 miles on average a year divided by 300 miles for $100 equals how much money per year? Facebook is not Factbook! 🤣

Well, the guy sent me a video of the car in the dealership, so it existed at some point. Not sure why it is so hard to actually buy it remotely. I mean, you can buy a house remotely except for the part when the notary comes at home to get signatures. But the house is sold through docusign pretty much.
I have heard this from multiple dealerships. I called around dealerships in three states to ask to be put on a list if they have a unicorn (a car unexpectedly available because someone refused their order) and was told that if that happens, the salespeople are alerted and they all start calling the people on their lists (and every salesperson has their own unique list of would-be buyers). The car is sold to the first person who walks in with money and there is no way to have them hold it (I asked, as you did). These are wacky times.
