My EV specialist who I communicate regularly with contacted me today and said he just got off an All Dealer Call for the US Central Region (Indiana to North Dakota). He said the following was stated for this region:

1) Demo units will arrive sometime between April and May. In all our previous discussions, Feb was when the demo cars would arrive, so this is a shift.
2) 1st Editions will "ship" between March and May. He noted that there was no mention on the call about 1st wave and 2nd wave first edition orders, so the assumption is that all 1st edition deliveries are expected at same time (at least for central region).
3) AWD Pro S "deliveries" are expected from Aug to Nov. This is also a shift from previous info available to him. Before it was July - Sept.

Since central region is lower priority, none of this likely applies to West and East regions, except possibly deliveries of 1st editions.

That's consistent with what eMobility told me in email this week. My dealer (Edmonds, WA) today said he expects a demo "in the next few weeks."

Thanks, @corfam. I, too, am in the Midwest and wondered if there would be delays from the coasts. Your specialist is more communicative than mine. Mine finally responded to an email saying that Pro RWDs would show up in June and AWDs in September.

How did you even find your EV specialist? Just contact your dealer?

I tried calling them on the phone 10 days ago - at that point they had no information.

My only real surprise and disappointment was with the demo cars being delayed for my dealership. May is a long time to wait to see the car, especially when the tour was cancelled in Chicago area back in November. I'd certainly prefer to test drive a car sooner than later. At least as others get to drive the car (hopefully this month in places) I'll still be able to learn. This community is great.

I contacted my dealer on launch day just after placing my reservation. I got introduced then.

My guy is just someone from dealership with a fancy title but at least seems to be in the know as.far as basics are concerned
Agreed.

I did a quick 'chat' with someone from my dealer and found the name of my EV specialist, and she is going to contact me - probably tomorrow.

I always worry about the 'chat' things built into websites - am I speaking with a bot or a human? But I did get the name of a human who actually works there, so perhaps I am on the right track.

When you put in your reservation, haven't you selected the local dealership for pickup? Someone from that shop should have contacted you already with all details etc. Or perhaps it is just a Colorado thing :)

That definitely matters on the dealer or area. No word from my dealer and when I went in a few weeks ago to see what was up they said no one has been trained and I know more than them just by reading stuff on the internet.

Yeah, I selected a local dealer. But this is lower-slower-Delaware, where a lot of locals aren't inclined to do more than the minimum. Kind of a rude shock when you are used to big city customer service where they bend over backwards and go the extra mile. Nothing to do with VW, really - that's just the attitude that a lot of the locals have.

Fair enough, my previous VW stealership would bend backwards NOT to deal with my car. I voted with my wallet and now will go out of my way NOT to buy anything from them, even if they are priced lower. Customer service is what matters at the end of the day after the car is sold and you get to drive it.

My wife takes her TDI to this dealership, so it isn't like we have no experience with the place.

I have had zero communication from my dealer as well - I guess Los Angeles is not much of an EV area either. (Of course, until they have a demo to test drive, I don't really need them pinging me).

My assigned dealer has a chat line through their website. I tried using that to find out if they had an EV Specialist. They would give me no information until I gave them an email address and phone number. That rubbed me the wrong way. They couldn’t answer a simple question without harvesting my personal data? I persisted and they cut me off.

A week or two later, after I calmed down, I went into the dealer and immediately was approached by one of two EV Specialists they have on staff (she was wearing an ID.4 face mask). She was quite pleasant and apologized for the poor chat treatment I received. But - as others have said - this so-called specialist didn’t know much.

My dealer's website also has chat. A window has popped up many times asking me to chat when I've been on their website. Every time, regardless of hour, the name (and avatar) of the chat representative is the main receptionist at the dealer. One time in the middle of the night I was up and got the chat window popup. I had a question so I asked it over chat. I got the same treatment. "She" wanted contact info. Just being 2 AM, it was clear to me that the dealer receptionist was not who I was chatting with. I'm highly sure that these chat people are not really dealer staff. Likely, many VW dealers use the same chat service, all answered by a bank of random representatives. Poor excuse for lousy service, but they should make it more clear.

I sometimes suspect that you are chatting with some sort of AI bot. If it can't figure out what you want, it just asks for contact info so a human can contact you. But I suspect that if there is a human at the dealership, they can turn off the AI bot and let them try and answer questions.

I got a callback from my EV specialist. She could see the order, but there wasn't anything useful she could offer. There was a production date field which was blank - she could see that. She said she didn't think they would have a dealer demo until the summer sometime.
