Door handle lock sensor stopped working?!

Started today, drivers door handle lock sensor (triangle to lock the car) not working anymore. Passenger side works just fine! Issue just started today, it was working fine for two weeks since I've received the vehicle. No matter how I touch the triangle sensor door won't lock no matter what. Any lighter touch on the passenger side will lock the car just fine. Cleaned the whole handle and sensor twice no good. Really annoying! Anyone has ideas, suggestions, similar issues? This is not my first car with capacitive door handle lock sensor so let's eliminate operator error of the bat! Also no dirt, moisture or any type of residue in the handle. Does not matter if the FOB is outside or inside the pocket. Again any type of usage scenario on the passenger door works fine. Bad driver door sensor, software issue?

I've opened a case with VW Customer Care regarding the door handle lock triangle. I figured that this will have several benefits:
  1. It assures that VW Corporate actually has me on record as the owner of my ID.4 (seeing as how I've never received any E-mail from them on any topic),

  2. It gets written down on record that I have this problem as of today's date, and

  3. Heck, it might even cause something good to happen regarding this problem.
They promised me a confirming E-mail with a Case ID but so far, it hasn't shown up.
According to my service advisor my case is already escalated with VW Corporate but I will start calling them when I get past 30 days which is coming up.

As I am driving my loaner for 3 weeks now and locking door daily multiple times it never failed on me and works instantly. The car is 2020 Tiguan with 30k miles that likely went through a lot of renters. It has same lock sensor design as Id.4. Except handle is manual which also works perfectly every time and feels normal. There was no need to overengineer handle on id.4.

A fair assumption, but having sufficient fob battery capacity to light its LED and having enough to RF communicate to the vehicle may be widely differing conditions.

btw: my firm fingerprint on the door handle lock/unlock icon still works more reliably than a swipe. 🤷‍♂️
Oddly, I find the swipe works most of the time but the simple touch rarely works.
