Well my service advisor just called less than 90 minutes after dropping my car off.
They say the passenger door handle needs to be replaced and they have ordered the part.
They say the car can be driven but the door latch needs to operated manually, not electronically.
I'll be picking the car up at lunch time today and will know more after I talk to the advisor.

I thought so too and drove it 2 weeks almost until I stopped enjoying the experience of door opening on its own
I suspect I will feel like you if it takes 2 weeks plus to repair.
The service advisor told me about 1 week to get the part and have it painted.
Maybe he has his head in the clouds, or maybe VW just got a large shipment of new door handles in.
Wait and see time.

Yes we are in UK. The replacement handle took one week to arrive from Germany and it is now in the body shop being sprayed to match the car colour. We are fortunate to have this sorted out relatively quickly.
1. I now realise that twice, when I could not remove the charger from supermarket charging stations, this was probably related to the central locking fault and not me doing something wrong!
2. In addition, Automatic Cruise Control and Auto-Hold have been failing randomly - these are also related issues as they do not work if the driver door is not closed properly.
Good luck with the handle replacement! Let's hope this resolves the issue. VW really need to act immediately to protect ID4 drivers!
I had thought this might be due to VW getting a bad batch of door handles from a supplier.
Now that we have confirmation that it is happening to US and European manufactured vehicles it is looking more like a design defect and VW will need to address this with a recall.

After 5,000 problem-free miles and 10 months, my 2021 Pro S AWD developed the same door-opening randomly while at stoplights issue as others here. Took it in for service today (24 hours after calling dealership). They diagnosed as needing a new door latch, say part will be here tomorrow, should be ready tomorrow afternoon.

I'm of course skeptical based on others' reports that it's the door latch. I think it's obviously the handle mechanism. I'm also getting the "error: auto hold" and "driver assistance not available" errors reported in the other thread linked here.

Also of note: we had some recent bouts of freezing rain here and it seems others have been able to tie the fault to those weather events.

And let's just get this out of the way before PANZERidIV decides to weigh in again: I know how to operate my door handles, and it's a malfunction.
My dealer originally said he would have the door handle by middle of the next week (this was on a Friday).
He now says the door handle is on backorder with no estimated availability date.

From my service manager when I asked for a part availability estimate:

Unfortunately with backorders Vw does not give us a time frame, its frustrating on our end. The only indicator that we know when it is on its way is we are billed for it. Then it usually shows up a few days later.

Contacted Customer CARE today, I didn't expect them to be much help but worth a try.
Here is what I told them:

My 3 month old vehicle is waiting on a back ordered part. This is a current production model so the part is obviously available to the factory for production. VW should prioritize existing customers and divert parts from future production to take care of people who already have placed their faith in the company.

Mostly unlocked and sometimes it showed open.
The Problem with the MyVW app showing old information (showing the door unlocked or opened after it has been closed) could be unrelated to this door handle problem.

To be clear when my app shows the car is unlocked, the doors have actually unlocked.
When it tells me the passenger door is open and I go out the car, I find the interior dome lights on and the passenger door slightly ajar.

Take it to dealer and let us know what estimate you are getting.

I really hope it's just going to be the driver door. Service advisor also mentioned they had several Id.4s with the same issue but to my question if it was a driver door for all of them he couldn't recall.
Mine is the front passenger door.

Here is a question which I couldn't find in this thread. For the people where the door opened was the central locking active - aka the yellow light on the door handle - to indicate all doors are locked when the door opened?
My central locking wasn't working when experiencing the door un latching issue.

I don’t know why the dealers can’t get an ETA. I think my service guy is getting tired of me asking. He said he still has no idea. Could be a few days, could be a month. I’m trying my best not to be angry since it won’t do any good. But I’m sure having doubts about VW.
^^THIS^^
My service guy says they don't know when it will be arriving until they get billed for it.

Are any of you using your iD4 with this issue?

My door now no longer locks at all and pops open when parking/driving. Is there a way to manually lock the door? If I lock with the fob, leave the fob far away from the car it reports the car as unlocked. If I walk up to the car without the key I can physically force the handle to open (the electronic unlock does not sense my hand). It seems the electronic door lock has completely failed on that one door.
Yes I am still driving my car.
My problem was the passenger side door handle.
As all of you know who have been experiencing this problem, it is intermittent.
For a few weeks it occurred frequently with the door handle sending spurious signals to the latch and central locking system.
Now it seems to have died completely, so I have to use the manual method to open the passenger door from the outside, but the self unlatching has stopped and the central locking system works normally.
Of course now that I wrote this I’m sure the problems will return with a vengeance.

After several days of my issues with my door handle, this evening it seems to be working normally. Should I keep my service appointment tomorrow? I assume they actually need to see the problem first hand to offer any kind of resolution. I don’t have 3 hours to waste unnecessarily, and could easily make another appointment when it next plays up. Does anyone have any experience with this?
The technician was able to pull error codes from the door handle when I brought mine in.

Just an update on my issue in case its helpful for others:

Took my iD.4 in today and the technician was able to replicate the issue and ordered replacement parts (door handle, latch, and one other? Maybe it was mechanism?). They said the parts should arrive in a day or so.

Assuming everything goes as expected I guess this means that the parts are more readily available now?
I hope you get the parts in a day or so.
However I think that is the stock answer then they call you in a day or sop and say the part is on national backorder with no ETA.

After 7 weeks waiting for the part my dealer has stopped answering my texts asking when it will arrive.
I love my car and don't hold a mechanical failure against VW, but this leaving me in the dark indefinitely is going to far.

Any suggestions on how to escalate this or next steps?

Any updates? I’m following your journey, because we’re only a few weeks behind you. I really think that we are going to push for a buyback. The lack of communication from VW isn’t sitting well with me.
I’m actually out of state helping take care of my grandson because my daughter had surgery.

I’ll be back on Long Island on Saturday and will go have a talk with the service manager on Monday since they have stopped answering my texts.

I’m sure it’s annoying to have a customer hounding you about a part, but I have only been texting once a week, which I don’t think is excessive.
