So you are saying that a single one of VW ID.4 drivers have not had to learn how to use these handles? I call BS
Not sure I read that correctly, but reading all these threads regarding the handles has always been odd to me. Still waiting on my ID, which is going to enter production in two weeks, but I did have one for a testdrive overnight. Plenty of stops and switching the driver multiple times, someone on the backseat.

No one noticed anything new/different/odd about how the doors operate. I just used them like I've used car doors all my life. Granted, we didn't use keyless entry, but I don't think that changes anything?

Of course, maybe Euro version has different door handles, then..?

So, to loop back, not sure if that was the claim made, but I did not need to learn anything to use the doors of and ID.4 for the overnight test-drive and I don't expect the ID.5 GTX to be any more complicated once it arrives.

That's not to gloat about anyting. I pulled the handle - the door opened. As expected. From and into the car. I honestly am yet to understand what is supposedly new or different on the ID.4 compared to every other car I've driven in the last 20+ years.

I don't know what to tell you. It's over 12 months since the test drive. Two drivers, several swaps of during the evening, one passenger in and out of the car, returned the car in the morning.

Not one of the three noticed anything "odd" about the doors and most certainly no one had to learn anything. That includes the then 8-year-old passenger.

Obviously I said nothing about the doors opening during a drive or not opening when needed. Merely wondered about all the various comments about that something needs to be learned to open the doors.

I would not put too much weight on patents.

Cars might be different, but I just saw today that Fujifilm has patented a "full-frame" lens design recently.

That will never see the light of day, as Fuji manufactures APS-C (smaller than FF) and Medium format (larger than FF) cameras only, and has repeatedly stated that they see no reason to compete in the FF space everyone else resides in.

A patent may be filed simply to prevent someone else doing that very thing, or as a stepping stone to something further developed etc.

We all will be laughing at his next comment in this thread when one of his handles fails to work one day and he would get no ETA when it will be fixed.
I have no idea why, but I've yet to see one single report of doors opening in Europe.

Keyless access not locking or opening the door, yes, but not one report of doors opening during drive. And I am in the Volkswagen ID. Drivers club, and boy, are there complaints. Mostly about 3.0 OTA not being delivered, but that's another story (everyone already got the 12V and 2.4, and 3.0 rollout did start).

If it was US 2023, I'd point my finger at the US plant, but as it is German-built cars, I have no guesses why it shows up in the US only. Then again the software issue with 360' cameras only affected US cars too...

I'm just going to rely on the issue not popping up for a year or two, and VW having their shit in order before it does.
