Do you remember where you read about redesign?

Well my service advisor just called less than 90 minutes after dropping my car off.
They say the passenger door handle needs to be replaced and they have ordered the part.
They say the car can be driven but the door latch needs to operated manually, not electronically.
I'll be picking the car up at lunch time today and will know more after I talk to the advisor.

I thought so too and drove it 2 weeks almost until I stopped enjoying the experience of door opening on its own

I suspect I will feel like you if it takes 2 weeks plus to repair.
The service advisor told me about 1 week to get the part and have it painted.
Maybe he has his head in the clouds, or maybe VW just got a large shipment of new door handles in.
Wait and see time.

lol! I really hope there's a batch of handles being imported and expected at dealerships on Feb. 8. If so, I'm kind of glad it took awhile to get my car in, because otherwise I'd be getting starting the lemon/buyback process. I really do want to love this car, and I felt so lucky getting a '23 delivered in Nov., with 3.1 software, Pirelli tires, and no major issues.

I've been looking forward to this for a decade -- I've been following the EV market, and was an early Tesla fan and investor. I finally got a driveway installed, which let me put in a charger, and it seemed as if the stars had aligned perfectly. My excitement was enough to let me not care about any of the "idiosyncrasies" that others complain about.

But it stung last night as I pulled my loaner Tiguan in next to an ID.4... the lights look great at night and make it easy to ID. People were still in the car and I would've at least waved if I had my ID.4, but I felt like a gawking idiot. I don't think of the car as a status symbol, and I don't even really like interacting with people, but I guess I am a little proud because it was disappointing. Oh well. I'll give it another week...

Not that they told me.
however while it has continued to lock and unlock on it’s own, it has not unlatched since I got it back.
Did they modify anything?

I don’t think so.
Still no unlatching incidents, but it is an intermittent problem.
Then I'm not understanding their comment to you. It can't be helped but to open the door electrically while attempting to open it manually. Oh well, please keep us updated, I'm super curious how this plays out.

Traded my 2020 Tiguan SE for new 2023 Tiguan SE loaner. It's bit of improvement and downgrade in a few things. It has nicer style, all digital display dash, added travel assist, led/hid headlights, but also downgrade with more touch sensitive controls and oddly they replaced door button with a physical one which you have to press to unlock.

Oh and small update on my repair from adviser that he may be able to put me back in my car very soon.

I hear my passenger door's locking mechanism when the someone closes the door. Should I start getting concerned? Is this how your problems started with your door randomly opening?

Hi all, my drivers side door latch also failed on my 23 pro s. They need to replace the door handle. I am also in the “no eta for part” camp. I will post updates as I get them!
Welcome to the unfortunate club!

It started when touch sensor stopped working entirely and random clicking sounds of door lock mechanism after you open or close door.
