I have had problems with mice getting inside my car making nests under the floor in the back compartment, and also chewing wires for my front assist that cost me $500. An old thread about it here:
I built a small 2'x4' pond trap that during last fall season was catching 5 mice per night, and 1 rat per week. Now its too cold and the pond is frozen and catches no more, so I decided to build an electric fence perimeter around the car. It is made from 1x4 boards with 1" wide aluminum tape as used on ducts, and then galvanized fence wire stapled on top of that. It has 2 runs of wire about 1" apart, the one with the tape is 5000 volts from the fence charger, the other is the ground. Here is the small fence charger on the left side, good for 2 miles of fence so it should be good for the 50' around the car:
I will update this with how its working, since I was getting signs of new mouse poop in there every night I will know soon. I only run it at night, and won't run it when it snows or rains. Twice when I have popped the hood to check things there was a rabbit right on top of the black air filter box. It was so surprised it froze and I could have grabbed it! This should work to stop rabbits too.
