So this has happened a few times in the 2 months I've owned my ID.4... after I charge, the EA app tells me my grace period has started, and will continue to tell me that for several hours after I have unplugged my car. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve had this happen when I authorize the charge using the EA app in Apple CarPlay, and stop the charge using the button on the EA charging station. Never been charged though.

Huh, that's strange, which method do you use to initiate the charging session?

On my EA app (on Android) I get a progress bar for the session that's accurate right up to charge termination, and only receive the grace period notification while plugged in and idle. I typically use the "plug in first / tap to pay" method, but also occasionally select the charger on the map within the EA map then plug in.

Like @Islander, I've extended past my allotted minutes a few times and have never been charged, but don't recall ever continuing to receive notifications after disconnecting.

Grace period is 10 minutes.

If the app continues to warn about idle charges, does this affect the availability of the charger I used? I don’t think so but I don’t know for sure. It’s hard to know much about EA chargers with absolute certainty. I struggled last week at the EA station at the Stockton, CA Walmart, and EA customer service (which is top-notch) said the problem could be that a passenger door was open. The EA CarPlay app seems to struggle if you don’t keep your phone in the car while you get out to plug in.

It happened to me last Sunday. I randomly checked the EA app to get the charging stats 3 hours after the charging session ended and the grace period timer was showing -3 hours still in progress.
So I called the EA customer service to report the issue and the agent told me such issue occurs from time to time.
She assured me I didn't get charged for anything and, after confirming the completion of the charge session, cleared the grace period.
Software is not VW's forte. Such a shame.

It happened to me once for 3 hours or so after leaving. I then called customer service and they took care of it. Nothing ever got charged on my account.

What is the grace period? are you unlocking the charger for the next person?
When your car stops charging, they give you a 10 minute grace period before they start charging you $0.40 per minute until you unhook and move your car . . . . automatically charged to the credit card you gave them when you set up your account

Although I have never gone over myself, I have not heard of anyone actually being charged for going over. That might be another perk of the free charging.

It is stated every time I charge & then when I get the Text that the charge is done. And the unit states it too at End of Charge. Which is why I am reluctant to be away from the car more than 10 minutes during a session. This messaging coupled with AT&T with its unpredictable text messaging server response (gotten text messages 3 days after the sender had sent them to me). Umm yeah.
