Electrify America App Lockup on iPhone?

5491 Views 22 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  BlueDH
Learned iPhone folks, I just can't seem to get the subject to fully install on my iPhone 12 Mini with current iOS 14.4.1.

Caveat: I first installed on my iPad (same iOS) while I was awaiting delivery and no issues there.

On the iPhone I get the splash screen and then face recognition query but then it hangs on the next "notification ..." text page. I've tried both accepting face recognition and also "try later - next" with same lockup results.

I've deleted it from both iPad and iPhone, cold rebooted, reinstalled only on iPhone and same lockup.

It's not listed in the Settings-Notifications-Notification Styles so I presume it's not fully installed as a result of this impasse.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I don’t have any suggestions at the moment. It works fine on my 12 Pro Max. However, I had installed a while ago so it just updates for me. They did an update 2 days ago. Based on my experience with other apps sometimes they get hung up even with just an update. I usually give it a day or two and a new update appears and it’s fixed. Takes a couple of days for these issues to show themselves and for the developers to get notified and create the fix.

When it launched did you allow access to your location? and all the other "allows"? I just tried to install and after splash that is first thing it asked me? If that isn't happening, you may need to look in Settings-> Privacy -> location services ->Electrify America and make sure it is set to while App is on. I'd call EA too

After the splash screen the first thing I get on the iPhone is "Enable Face ID."

I hit "setup later" to reduce variables and still got the "Notifications You can choose to get alerts when: -You charge to the cost your specify .. yada yada" And that's where it locks. I can do nothing further other than to close the App manually by sliding up halfway, etc.

I made sure my location services were "always on" just after re-installation and before I opened the App.

Oh well, as mtouree cites sometimes these App's have to catch up with a new iOS.

News Flash: I just called EA and they have recording citing that they have a new App (yeah, I got the latest) and are working out some "back end connectivity issues and historical data recall."
So will wait a few days and see if it clears. Odd that it works fine on my iPad with same iOS however. But then I installed/configured the iPad some time ago. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks all.

Just give it a day or two and it will be fine.

As an aside, did your dealer tell you how the 3 years free EA charging is going to work? Do we get a special code to scan or some sort of other mechanism to link our EA account to the fact we get the 3 years free? Thanks.
Yes, there's supposed to be a special code but since I couldn't get the App working yesterday at the dealership....
I'll be going back in on Monday to get my registration & State inspection sticker so hopefully by then resolved.

Need both an enrollment code and VIN.

I received a text from my salesman telling me VW called him telling him I did not sign up for Electrfy American yet. I was in no hurry as I am charging at home and the closest EA is too far to make sense. So yesterday tried to sigh up using the special code issued to the car. For 4 attempts it told me it was an invalid code. Told my salesman and he said to bring the car in tomorrow and he will check it. We'll just tried again and code worked fine????? I am not sure what was going on with app yesterday.

I have the same problem. I contacted EA and the put a case number on it with their IT department. They actually called me yesterday and said they are having a problem getting their new app to work w/iPhone. My EA app locks up every time no matter if I cold start or delete the EA app and reboot. Actually I was surprised how good EA was responding back to me. They said if not fixed by time I have my FE next week they would do a work around by just loading my VIN into their system (whatever that means). So I am sure we are one of many having the same issue which is not good!

I've had the EA app on my phone for years for use with my i3. The app is definitely acting weird right now. Mine is showing version 5.9.1 updated 3 days ago (iPhone).

I have no issues on my iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 14.3 and EA version 5.8.1. Just charged last Thursday at an EA and it worked great.

BTW didn’t have any issues with EA app on my old 7 year old 5S.

Mine was semi-locked up a couple of times when I installed it last weekend. Now it is fine. From everything above I'd say we are looking at a buggy release.

I am planning to try out the nearest EA station this evening for the first time. I have the EA app installed (iPhone 6S plus running IOS 14.4.1) and am logged in, have a credit card paired (for their mandatory $10 account balance for the first charge, in case I loiter and they charge me). My ID.4 currently sits at 53% and will be under 50% by the time I get there. I'm giving myself 1 hour total to charge. If that means getting 100%, great. If it's 59 minutes of fighting the pump, calling support, etc. and 1 minute of charging, so be it.

My iPhone is a hand-me-down. My wife gets the new one and I get her old one. Fine with me. I have an iPhone 8 plus. The EA app hasn't worked two times. I've had to call the 800 number both times 😟😟😟.
It’s a 6-digit code. You have to go through all steps (including adding a CC) for it to register. It seems that the 3-year period starts on the day you register. So for those who do not want to charge immediately, you just may ask your dealer for the code and set up the plan only shortly before your first planned EA charge 😉.

Just use the Plugshare app and have it set to find chargers on the EA network. It works quite well!
I don't think that you'll be able to pay through Plugshare though.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder how long that can theoretically be pushed? Like if I didn't register until 1 year from now, would I really get 3 years free from that date? Or does the offer of 3 free years expire at some particular time if you don't claim it by then?

How do you filter just select EA?

Don’t know. I think it said somewhere that the 3 years of free charging are only for 2021 purchases, so perhaps latest end of 2021?

In the app, click on the blue/white Filters icon in the top right - looks sort of like an antenna dish pointing up. Scroll to the bottom and select Networks to get the page where you can set those preferences.

Also works at www.plugshare.com
