I’m watching the news with flooded streets from the storms in the south, seeing people driving through flooded roads (3 or 4 inches of water)… What would happen with an ID.4 in a similar situation? Is there an electrical risk to the occupants, those who could be around the car? Will it short out? I assume it fails safe, but with ICEs we know it won’t kill you with the power source if it fails in high water.

I've watched enough Rich Rebuilds battery disassembly videos to expect that generally speaking, the battery ought to be protected against being submerged, but water always finds the smallest openings. I think he's maybe 50/50 on his channel. So even if VW says theirs can survive a dunking, I wouldn't want to try it. Nobody is going to get electrocuted, I'm 100% confident of that, but you do risk eventual corrosion and ultimately battery failure depending on how much water sneaks in.
