In NY, with TOD pricing and a $0.05 per kW rebate for charging EVs, I can do almost 50% better than their figures.

One problem, he compared a Model 3 sedan to a Toyota CUV. A better comparison would be an ID4 or Model Y to a RAV4. Utah was a surprise.
Agreed - would like to have seen an SUV vs SUV matchup, and yeah, Utah. Very surprised about that. I'd like to see the data behind why it's so bad.

So what about owners that have free charging at work...or have solar at home.
Do you happen to know someone that have in his backyard refinery to produce fuel...i have not seen one .
For people who are budget oriented and see that cost could be same or more when traveling long distance..Should ask themselves how much money they save while doing local business and going to work and only charge at home.
Maintenance is another thing that is much less on EV vs ICE.
EV do require dealer visit visits when have issues but at least they are repaired by trained technicians with all tools needed to fix.
As this technology is more adopted it will have more independent shops that can work on.
I personally don't see problem even with only 80 kW speed and charging every 160-200 miles on the trip.
There is still tipping point in EU to convince people going from diesel ICE to EV.
Example
BMW X5 diesel with 86 litter diesel tank is capable to cover over 800 miles traveling across Midwest in US traveling at 65 MPH. In good condition and weather. And still capable to do half or little less hauling trailer.

Once EV with 100 kWh become available for affordable prices this will be the straight choice.
ICE should still exist because there is still no way for people who pull recreational trailers when going on vacation to consider EV.
But for majority EV are better than ICE.

Obviously, free charging at work changes the calculations, but you still have to pay for your solar installation (but skews it even more in your favor).
Yeah, maintenance is definitely lower with an EV - I still remember the journalist years ago who compared the 10-year total cost of ownership of a Tesla Model S vs a Honda minivan & the Tesla won. Nowadays I think it would win on a smaller timeframe, even with the Tesla price increases. :)
That BMW X5 might be able to drive for 10+ hours, but my bladder & stomach sure can't! I need the restroom stops!
