I've been an EVGo user for about two years, and used them about once a week for a few months to charge my i3, before purchasing a 16 amp EVSE to plug in at work.

There have been complaints / observations / concerns that Electrify America charges a premium for users without the benefit of VW's free charging. EVGo charged similarly high rates.

Well good news! Today EVGo is announcing a new pricing structure which looks beneficial to most, and it's the shirt that needed to be fired to perhaps see EA respond in kind.

Drive-up Rate:
$2 session fee + 29¢ per kWh

This compares their current $3 per minute, which cones out to $1.20 per kWh at the ID.4's max 150 rate, IF the charger supports that speed (most are currently 50kW).

But more importantly, this betters the EA drive-up rate of 43¢ /kWh., IF more that 14 kWh are needed.h

Their other plans are:

  • $5 / mo and 29¢ per kWh, $5 is credit (basically pre-paying for 17 kWh every month)
  • $7/ mo and 25¢ per kWh

Let's hope they can get their network built out a bit better by the time our free VW plans tap out.

They are a flat 30¢ per minute drive-up pricing here using maximum 50 kW chargers. This works out to a '6 2/3-minute session fee' and $7.25 if you get a perfect 25 kWh from a half hour charging session or $9.25 versus a $9.00 timed charging for 30 minutes. I'd still rather pay by the kWh than any other way. Here's hoping the rest of the states allow measured EV charging.

I have found EVgo chargers to be reliable and start charging almost immediately. They are several new EVgo stations here, with the closest EA 30 miles away.

I neglected to mention the new rate plans go into effect on September 16th.

I calculated that when I was charging my i3 in Texas and New Mexico on the Electrify America per minute plan, my effective price per kilowatt was lower than when I drove into Arizona and California and paid per kW. It's an annoyance to try to calculate when the uptake is variable, especially with the ID.4.

If you are an AAA member, there is a way to enroll in the "EVgo Member" $5/mo plan (was $7.99/mo prior to this update) with no monthly cost. You simply link your AAA account.

In my case, I used my CO AAA member login, and the link above and it worked. So, it will allow you to link an AAA count from anywhere in the US to your EVGo account. I have heard people in FL, New England, TX successfully link their accounts.

So the new plans are (pricing varies by location, this is my location):

5314

Note monthly subscription is a new item for the Plus plan only, the $4.99 monthly prepaid charging fee for the Member pricing plan is credited back to you if you charge at least once per month at EVGo. With the AAA plan linked, I pay $0 prepaid fees per month, get $0 monthly credits, but pay the Member pricing and have no session fee. The Reservation option is initially limited to LA and SFO areas I believe, so this is not a good choice for most EVgo users. These areas (LA, SFO) also have higher prices in peak utility demand periods, so the Plus account might make sense in those areas for those who use EVgo a lot.

For EA, I pay $.43/kWh (Pass), or $.31/kWh (Pass+). So, EVGo looks pretty attractive, now if they would upgrade their 50kW units it would be a win!

Awesome, great, thanks for the tip. I added my AAA and I'm all set.

Nice to know EVGo is reasonable. All the NC locations around me are 50 kW @ $0.30 /min for pay as you go, so that works out to $.36 /kW. So approximately $16.63 to charge 20% -> 80% which would take about 56 minutes assuming it delivers 50 kW the whole time.

Well let's see how they ramp up. Their nearby location that opened last month only has 50 kW charging, and one under construction near my house had been under construction fire YEARS ,(literally) so I'm expecting the same.

They're going to be the DCFC of last resort for many if they can't offer at minimum 150 at each location, unless somebody is purposely looking for a "slow" fast charge (dinner, movie, appointment).

Not a comment on EVGo, but speed pricing.

I have multiple options near me in Milwaukee.
Starting the testing process as we await home install.
Electrify America is .32/minute @ 150/350 KW.

Going to test other solutions soon. There is a ChargePoint 4 minutes from my work, for example.
16.00 for 20-80% is roughly twice what I have been paying.

Hope this helps

Yeah my futile attempt to not start up a new thread for every single item when there are already about a hundred
