If you have a 240V electric dryer, or A/C compressor, check those connection's temperatures in-operation and I believe you will find them somewhat similar (the EVSE at max is pulling more than either a dryer or compressor however and hence its thicker wire gauge and higher circuit breaker rating).
If you can put your hands on it, and it feels quite nice, I wouldn't be concerned.
